The Manchester IronPigs claim the 2014 Fall Ball Championship with an 8-7 win over the Portsmouth Padres in another close contest between these two teams.
When the IronPigs and the Padres face off, it's usually the Padres with the lead and the Pigs trying to chase them down, which they have done each time to win.
This time the roles were reversed and the Padres chased down the IronPigs to tie the score up at 7-all.
However, the 'Pigs Tim Clement scored on errant throw in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the IronPigs the 8-7 win.
Down 2-0 after the first half-frame, the IronPigs jumped out to the early lead with 6 runs in the bottom half of the first. The lead was 7-2, when the Padres chipped away to tie the score in the seventh inning.
Both Brian Riddick and and Jake Chamble settled down after each had shaky first innings. Riddick pitched 4-2/-3 innings, leaving theball game with a 6-2 lead and Chamblee was able to pitch into the eighth inning despite giving up 6 runs in the first.
Nik Beeson provided the offensive punch for the IronPigs, which included hitting his home run of the season. Beeson had 3 RBIs on the day.
Brad Backowies and Tyler Souther each had 2 RBIs for the Padres.
