MILITIA DEFEAT PREDATORS 33-20!

SECOND HALF SURGE GETS THEM BIG ON THE ROAD
The Western Connecticut Militia started the 2018 regular season off right with a 33-20 win on the raod versus the New York Predators. In order to noch their first win of the season, they would need to do it with QB Kevin Oberg in street clothes with a finger injury. Richie Snowden who is also recovering from a finger injury would split time with Edwin Heath. The Militia fell behind 6-0 and 12-6, but fought back to take a 14-12 lead into the half. They went on to score 19 unanswered points in the second half and taking a commanding 33-12 lead. The Predators would score once more cutting the lead to 13 in the 4th quarter. The Militia would hold onto that lead and improve their record to 1-0 on the season. Co-Owner/GM Carl Oberg had this to say about the team's win. "We were sloppy today" he said. "The second half was an improvement, but we will get better. We are better than what we showed today."
Both offenses started off slow. The Predators would draw first blood driving down the field and plunged a short run into the endzone for the 6-0 lead. The Militia would respond. Using the running game they marched down the field. In the shotgun, the snap would go over Snowden's head. He chased it down, avoided a sack and found Darius Cobb coming back on the numbers. Cobb would turn and find the endzone to tie the game at 6-6. The Preds would strike again moving the ball and finding the endzone again giving them a 12-6 lead in the 2nd quarter. Leave it to the Militia to find a way to push ahead. Edwin Heath filling in for Oberg would use his legs to help get the Militia the lead 14-12 before the half. The second ha;f saw the Militia build on that lead with back to back scoring drives bumping up the score to 27-12. Raquim Taft would scoop up a fumble and score to give the Militia the 33-12 lead. A late Predators score gave us the final 33-20.
The Militia open their home schedule at New Fairfield High School Saturday night. Kickoff is a 6PM. Their opponent will be the Long Island Panthers who were FSFL Champions last season. The Panthers lost their opener at home to the New Jersey Stags 32-2.
