A: Well, a PSAL title would be nice, and that's what Edison has been thinking about. To that end, the Inventors coaching staff met early in the fall to discuss strategy changes, then met individually with players before preseason practices to talk about team goals.
"It's been a lot more intense (this preseason)," said assistant Rob Diaz. "Everyone understands what we did last year, and we want to do that at a higher level."
The Inventors graduated three key players - guard Allan Thomas and forwards Arthur Abensett and Presano Bell. Additionally, the PSAL has ruled that Josh Gray, an athletic transfer from Long Island City, will not be eligible to play this season, the Daily News has learned, although Herb Gray, Josh's father, says he plans to appeal that ruling.
Despite those losses, Edison returns enough talent, led by seniors Isiah Stokley (16.4 ppg) and Stephon Hodges, the borough's top backcourt tandem. There's depth on the bench, too, in freshman Jevon Thomas and sophomore Kris Owens (22.6 ppg on JV).
Juniors Eddie Egharevba and Stephen Nwaukoni replace Abensett and Bell in the frontcourt. If they struggle, Stokley won't be shy about crashing the boards.
"I'll go inside and help if I have to," he said. "But Eddie and Steve should get it done.
"We have a ton of potential," Stokley added. "We could be way better than last year."
