NEW FAIRFIELD, CT The Western CT Militia move to 4-0 as they defeat their in-state rival Connecticut Bombers 46-0 at Rebel Field in New Fairfield, CT. “We did a lot of good things tonight” said Rich Snowden, “we executed in all three phases of the game”.
Snowden and the Militia collected over 350 yards of offense against the over-matched Bombers. Their running attack led the way with scores on the ground by Justin Johnson and Aaron Taylor. Snowden also chipped in with two scores on the ground including a 2 yard touchdown plunge to give the Militia a 28-0 lead going into the half.
Special teams also played a special role in the victory. Kicker Luigi Liovvi and Justin Bledsoe pinned the Bombers deep in their own territory all evening with both quality kicks and punts respectively. Great coverage teams eliminated large gains by the Bombers returners. Justin Johnson doubled as a kick returner and took the second half opening kick 88 yards for a score.
The Militia have strung together 8 consecutive quarters without allowing a score. Western CT’s defenders again kept their opponents off-balanced all game. After a punishing sack, defensive end Ray Durrett scooped up a loose ball and sprinted 33 yards for an additional score. When a Bombers quarterback overshot an intended receiver, safety Wazz Milner picked it off and ran it 42 yards for the final score of the night.
“When you can score on offense, defense, and on special teams, you give yourself a great chance to win” said Head Coach Lonnie Young, “we will need to play a similar game next week to have a chance”. The Militia will host last season’s MLF Champion New York Rebels (3-0) this weekend. “The Rebels are the cream-of the crop of the league; we’ll have to play our best to be able to compete.”
