NEW FAIRFIELD, CT   After leading at the half, second half turnovers and missed tackles attribute to the Militia’s 26-16 loss to the Brooklyn (NY) Seminoles. The defeat is the second of the season for Western CT.

The Militia opened the scoring on the night with a 32-yard pass and catch from Kevin Oberg to Dwight Franklin in the first quarter. “We were running the ball well early in the game which I think set up the pass” said Oberg, “when you get Dwight in one on one situations you have to give him an opportunity to make a play”. After a second scoring catch by Franklin, Luigi Liovi’s 36 yard field goal gave the Militia a 16-10 lead heading into intermission.

After a three and out in their first second half possession, the Militia turned the ball over on their next two opportunities and allowed the Seminoles back in the game. “We ran 8 offensive plays in a quarter and a half yesterday” said Head Coach Lonnie Young, “you can’t beat a quality team like the Seminoles like that”. The offensive stall by Western CT gave the Seminoles the ball deep in scoring territory too many times. They converted both turnovers into scores to take a 20-16 lead with less than four minutes to play.

With the ball finally in his hands, Oberg took his team on what appeared to be a game winning drive. Mixing in pass completions with out of the pocket scrambles, the Militia had the Seminoles on their heels and positioned inside their own 20 yard line. Two false starts during the series set up a 4thand long situation for Western CT. An incomplete pass gave the possession back to the Seminoles with much needed momentum. Their 68 yard drive was completed when Seminoles quarterback Jerol Wilson stepped out of a third down sack, dodged 3 would be tacklers and dove in the end zone for a game defining score.

“We just didn’t make the plays when we needed to in the second half; we did some good things but have to get better if we want to be an impact in the playoffs”. The Militia will return home on the 22ndto take on the Tri-County Owls for the regular season finale.
