Dolphins swept at home by Lenoir
May 3
BCC came into the weekend with Lenoir with their fate in their own hands. Win and they finish guaranteed no lower than a second place finish in Region X regular season. However for the first time since 2011 the Dolphins were swept by the Lancers, and fell to a fourth place finish for the season. They will be a fifth seed in the upcoming tournament.
In game one of the weekend series Lancers pitcher Jamie Cyr silenced the Fins bat allowing just a 7th inning infield hit to Chase Gehringer. He walked two and struck out one. Justin Baker took the loss allowing just one run over four innings in the LCC 8-0 win.
In the nightcap Lenoir plated nine runs in the 4th inning on their way to an 18-5 crushing of the Dolphins. BCC pitchers allowed 13 hits, nine walks, and a pair of home runs on the evening. Dillon Stewart was one of the few bright marks for the Fins as he collected three hits including a triple. Chase Gehringer banged his sixth home run of the season and Nick Debo doubled. On the dark side of the evening Dolphins left-handed starting pitching was removed from the game in the third due to a potential season ending arm injury.
In the regular season finale as the Dolphins said good-bye to five sophomores while trying to avoid the sweep at the hands of Lenoir. Offense was on display in the LCC 16-11 win. The two teams combined for 27 runs and 35 hits on the day. Aaron Maulding led the Dolphins with four hits driving in three runs. Dillon Stewart kept his hot bat alive with three doubles also driving in three runs. Gehringer, Debo, Willie McRae, and Kyle Mehl each added two hits.
The sophomores who were recognized included Ben Kerner, Willie McRae, Chase Gehringer, Dillon Stewart, and Nick Debo. All five of these players will be playing baseball at the next level. Kerner and Stewart will be at UNC-G, McRae at Winston Salem State, Gehringer at Lander University, and Debo will play at the University of Pembroke.
BCC finishes the regular season with a 29-16 record with an 11-6 record in Region play. The Dolphins will be back in action May 8th in the Regional tournament, which will be held in Kinston. We will post the tournament schedule in this site as soon as it’s available.
Dolphins down Wake Tech CC
April 25
For the second week in a row the Dolphins were limited to just one Region X game due to the weather, and for the second week in a row they took advantage of the situation. This time they won on the road over Wake Tech CC 8-3. The game which was played in a steady drizzle saw the Dolphins pound out 14 hits against the nation’s 8th ranked team, while limiting the Eagles to just 3 hits.
Nick Debo led BCC at the plate with three hits, three runs, with one double. Dillon Stewart added three hits with a RBI. Nick Yarbrough drove in two runs with two hits and Willie McRae added two hits as well. Aaron Mauldin had a triple and Chase Gehringer, Nathan Kuester, and Try Timmerman had the other Dolphins hits. Justin Baker pitched seven innings allowing just two hits for his third of the season. Patrick Banks pitched the last two innings allowing just one base runner.
With the win BCC improved to 29-12 overall and 11-3 in Region X action. They have a weekday trip to Pitt before returning home for the season’s regular season finale when they will host Lenoir for sophomore weekend.
Dolphins use huge 7th inning to down PHCC
April 19
The weather wasn’t very cooperative this weekend that pitted a pair of the top Region X teams, in BCC and Patrick Henry. Rain washed both games out on Saturday, but the two teams were able to salvage one game today as the Dolphins downed PHCC 9-3.
The Patriots scored a single run in each of the first two innings and held that lead until the 5th inning when the Dolphins pushed three runs across. Willie McRae singled home Trey Timmerman for the first run for the Fins. Nathan Kuester scored on a fielder’s by Aaron Mauldin and Nick Debo doubled to left scoring Mauldin from second giving the Dolphins a 3-2 lead. PHCC knotted the score back up in the 6th where the score would remain 3-3 until the 7th when BCC pushed across five runs.
Chase Gehringer walked with the bases loaded for the first run of the inning. Debo then singled in two more runs, before Dylan Stewart singled in two runs giving the Fins an 8-3 lead. In the 8th inning Debo picked up his 3rd RBI driving home Taylor Stephens.
Forrest Kerslake improved to 4-1 with five plus innings of relief pitching. He allowed just two hits while striking out four Patriot hitters. Justin Baker was just as impressive as he was summoned into the game in a bases loaded no out situation and kept the Patriots off the board. Baker notched his fifth save of the season.
Timmerman had three hits with a double leading the Dolphins 14 hits attack. Debo also had three hits driving in three runs. Willie McRae and Stewart had two hits and Stewart drove in a pair. Stephens, Kuester, Gehringer and Nick Yarbrough had the other BCC hits.
With the win BCC improves to 28-11 overall and 10-3 in Region X action. They return home Wednesday for a midweek game with FDTCC before traveling next weekend for another huge series against Wake Tech CC.
BCC wins series but falls from league lead
April 12
BCC defeated Surry this weekend two out of three games, but the loss dropped the Dolphins from first place to a three way tie for second. In the first game of the three game series the Dolphins used a walk-off fielder’s choice by Chase Gehringer in the bottom of the 9th inning to slip by Surry 4-3. Willie McRae led off the last inning and was hit by a pitch. He stole second base and advanced to third base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Trey Timmerman. The Knights walked Taylor Stephens intentionally to set up a double play and they got the ground ball by Gehringer but he beat the throw to first as McRae scored the winning run. McRae and Nick Debo led the Dolphins at the plate with two hits each. Patrick Banks pitching in relief of Ben Kerner got the win with three strong innings allowing just one hit.
The second game of the series was moved to Sunday due to the heavy rain Saturday. Justin Baker, normally the closer was given the start and he pitched a complete game two hitter with six strikeouts. BCC picked up 11 hits with Aaron Mauldin leading the way with four. Nathan Kuester and Dillon Stewart each had two hits. Mauldin and Kuester had doubles and Stewart drove in three runs.
In the rubber game Dolphins pitcher Chandler Jones didn’t allow a base runner until the fifth inning when he gave up a one out single. The first run of the game was scored in the fifth inning when Mauldin reached on a one out error. Debo would follow with a triple and pinch hitter Trent Carpenter then singled to right driving in Debo giving the Dolphins a 2-0 lead after five, A pair of singles and an error allowed the Knights to cut the deficit in half. In the top of the 7th inning Surry got a leadoff single and was sacrificed him to second and was moved to third on a ground out, the second out of the inning. A double down the line by Colton Narron tied the score at 3-3. He would score with the next batter reached on an error giving the Knights a 4-3 lead. The Dolphins were able to get the tying run on third but the game would end on a strikeout. BCC out hit the Knights 7-5 with Debo leading the way with two hits including his fifth inning triple. Jones was the hard luck looser allowing just one earned run.
The Dolphins record fell to 27-11 overall and 9-3 in Region X action. They play Pitt CC Wednesday in a non-conference match-up before hosting Patrick Henry in an important three game series this weekend.
Dolphins drop midweek pair to FDTCC
May 8
After running off 12 straight wins, the Dolphins have now lost four straight after dropping a pair to Florence Darlington today at Founders Field. In the first game against the Stingers, an 18-0 win, they jumped on starter Ryan Hall early as he gave up eight runs before the Fins ever registered an out. Most of it wasn’t any fault of Hall’s as he only gave up two earned runs. In fact of the 18 runs the Stingers scored only six were earned as the Dolphins continued to be mired in a defensive struggle as they committed six errors behind five pitchers. FDTCC plated 12 runs in the top of the first on their way to the win. Two Stingers pitchers limited the Dolphins to just two hits. Nick Yarbrough doubled in the fourth and Aaron Mauldin singled in the fifth for BCC.
Game two of the DH began much like the first as the Stingers plated six runs in the first inning off starter Zach Banks who saw his record drop to 1-1. BCC did manage six hits in the game, two each by Kyle Mehl, Nick Yarbrough, and Tre Timmerman. Mehl had a one out double in the fifth inning.
The Dolphins steps back into conference play this weekend as they host Surry in a DH Saturday beginning at 1:00 and a single game on Sunday that begins at 12:00. The Dolphins record on the season now stands at 25-10 overall and are tied for first place at 7-2.
Dolphins loose series at Catawba Valley
April 4
The Dolphins went into the series at CVCC riding an 11 game winning streak and a perfect record in Region X action. However they ran into a team that was just as hot in the Red Hawks who trailed the first place Dolphins by one game. The Fins got off to a good start taking the first game 10-9 after spotting CVCC four runs in the 1st inning. Dillon Stewart led the Fins with four of the team’s 15 hits. Taylor Stephens added three with Nathan Kuester and Chase Gehringer adding two each. UNC-G bound Ben Kerner picked up the win with Justin Baker earning his fourth save of the year.
In the second game of the DH the Fins carried a 3-1 lead into the last inning, but three errors in the inning spoiled a great outing by lefty Forrest Kerslake. He had allowed just three hits and one earned run through six innings with five strikeouts. He got the first two batters out in the last inning before allowing a hit. That’s when the wheels fell off for the Fins as three errors would follow allowing three runs to score giving the Red Hawks the win, snapping the Fins 12 game winning streak. Although it was a losing effort the Dolphins outhit CVCC with six hits led by Trey Timmerman and Chase Gehringer with two each.
The rubber match of the series was moved to LP Frans Stadium, home of the Hickory Crawdads as part of the Crawdads season opening ceremonies. BCC got on the board in the first after Gehringer singled followed by a double by Stewart down the left field line. The lead was short lived as the Red Hawks plated four runs in the third followed by a pair in the 5th and 6th innings and the Fins were never able to get back into the game although they had eight hits on the afternoon. Stewart and Willie McRae each had two hits to lead BCC at the plate. Chandler Jones one of five pitcher took the loss, his first of the season after three wins.
BCC now 25-8 overall and 7-2 in league play return home Wednesday for a non-conference game against Florence Darlington Tech. They return to league play with a three game series next weekend at Founders Field as they host Surry.
Dolphins sweep Southeastern CC
March 29, 2015
Brunswick completed the series sweep today with a 9-1 win over the Rams to improve to 24-6 on the season and more importantly 6-0 in league play. The win was the Dolphins 11th consecutive victory. After the Dolphins plated four runs in the 3rd inning it was all Chandler Jones from there as he earned his 3rd win. He allowed just three hits and faced just three batters over the minimum and was assisted by three double plays behind him. Willie McRae paced the offense with three hits. Dillon Stewart had two doubles driving in three runs. Nick Yarbrough also had a pair of hits for the visitors.
In the opening game of the series the two teams were locked in a pitcher’s duel until Nick Debo blasted a grand slam homer to deep right in the top half of the 11th inning to give the Dolphins a 7-2 lead. The Rams cut into the lead scoring two and had the tying at the plate Justin Baker came on to induce a ground ball for a double play saving his second game 7-4. Jonathan Carpenter earned the win after relieving starter Ben Kerner in the 8th. Aaron Mauldin paced the Fins at the plate with a career high five hits. Nathan Kuester added three of the team’s 12 hits with a double. Carpenter improved to 3-1 with the win.
In the nightcap of the DH, Brunswick was trailing 1-0 in the 5th inning when they used four hits and a Ram error to score five runs for a 5-1 lead. SCC cut the lead to 5-2 in the 6th and had the go ahead run at the plate before Justin Baker was summoned in and recorded his second save of the day and third of the season, as the Dolphins held on for a 7-2 win. Ryan Hall pitching in relief picked up his 4th win of the season. Nick Yarbrough had three hits for BCC and Dillon Stewart and Nigel Hester had two. Hester also drove in two runs. The Dolphins will return to action next Friday and Saturday in Hickory to play Catawba Valley.
Dolphins down Jamestown CC
March 25
BCC won for their eighth straight game with a 12-2 win over Jamestown CC in a game shortened to seven innings due to the 10 run rule. The Dolphins scored in all six innings including five runs in the 5th inning. Taylor Stephens led the offense for BCC going 4-4 scoring four runs with two doubles. Aaron Mauldin continued his hot hitting with three hits. Nick Yarbrough and Nathan Kuester each had two of the 15 hits BCC collected. Patrick Banks pitching in relief of Zack Banks notched the win to even his record at 1-1.
The Dolphins improved to 21-6 on the season and get back into league play Saturday when they travel to Whiteville where they will be hosted by Southeastern CC. Game time for both days is 1:00 p.m.
Brunswick CC reaches 20 win mark
March 23
BCC captured their 20th win tonight with a 6-2 win over Elgin CC, out of Illinois in the nightcap of a DH. They had earlier defeated Northern Central Missouri College 9-2 in the 1st game. The Dolphins scored three runs in each of the first two innings and three pitchers combined to shut down the Pirates bats. Jonathan Carpenter improved to 2-1 pitching in relief of Jason Hunter. Justin Baker pitched the final two innings. Taylor Stephens and Dillon Stewart each had two hits for BCC. Chase Gehringer and Stephens drove in a pair of runs. Nick Yarbrough and Willie McRae added the other two hits for the Dolphins.
In the nightcap BCC was held to six hits led again by Dillon Stewart with two. He also drove in a pair of runs. Kyle Mauldin had a hit and scored three runs. Chandler Roberts, Nigel Hester, and Taylor Stephens had the other Brunswick hits. Again three pitchers was used during the game. Willie McRae got the win pitching in relief of Patrick Corcoran. Ryan Hall pitched the last two innings for the Dolphins. BCC was aided by three double plays during the game.
The Dolphins, winners of seven straight improved to 20-6 on the season and return home Wednesday for a game against Jamestown Community College for a single game that gets underway at 1:00 pm.
Dolphins sweep New River in Region X Action
March 22
With Brunswick’s ace Ben Kerner getting his first start of the season the Dolphins scored five runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back in downing New River CC 11-1 in a five innings due to the mercy rule. Trey Timmerman led the offense with three hits driving in two runs. Aaron Mauldin had two hits with three RBIs. Nick Debo, Willie McRae, and Chase Gehringer each had two hits as well. Kerner used that run support as he breezed through four innings before giving up his only hit, a solo homerun in the fifth. He walked none and struck out three as he faced just 18 batters in the complete game effort.
In game two of the DH the bats were not as productive but just as effective for the Dolphins as they managed eight hits in a 4-2 over the Muskies. Chase Gehringer had two triples and Nigel Hester added two hits with a triple. Nick Yarbrough drove in a pair of runs with two sacrifice flies. Forrest Kerslake improved to 3-0 with the win. He allowed just three hits while striking out eight and walking none. Justin Baker came on in the 7th inning for a perfect inning to earn his first save of the season.
In the series finale Nathan Kuester drilled a shot down the left field line scoring Gehringer from second base to end the game due to the mercy rule for an 8-0 win in the 8th inning. The Dolphins pounded 13 hits in the game led by Mauldin, Yarbrough, Hester, Timmerman, and Taylor Stephens with two each. Timmerman, Yarbrough and Mauldin all doubled. Chandler Jones pitched six strong innings allowing three hits, striking out five earning his first win of the season.
BCC 18-6 steps out of league play for a busy week beginning with a double header at Ripken Center tomorrow playing Elgin CC and Northern Central Missouri. They return home Wednesday hosting Jamestown CC. The Fins return to action next weekend with a short trip to Whiteville when they play Southeastern CC.
Dolphins win pair from Delaware County CC
March 17
BCC improved to 15-6 with a double header sweep of Delaware County CC today. In the first game the Fins won 11-1 with the aide of eight Phatoms walks and three errors. They were able to manage eight hits, led my Nick Debo with three including a triple. Chase Gehringer added a two run double before leaving the game in the second with a leg injury. Jonathan Carpenter notched his first college win on the mound going five innings allowing just two hits with five strikeouts. Zack Banks pitched a hitless 6th inning in relief.
In the nightcap the Dolphins got out the gate quickly wh
en Nick Yarbrough blasted a two run homerun in the 1st inning. They went on to pound 19 hits in the game, their largest offensive output of the season. Eight different Dolphins had at least one hit including four each by Aaron Mauldin and Nigel Hester. Yarbrough had three including his homerun and a double while driving in four runs. Taylor Stephens, Willie McRae, and Nolan Clenney each added two. Hester had a two run triple and Mauldin scored four times. Ryan Hall pitched a complete game two-hitter striking out four. He ran his record to 3-1 on the season.
BCC opens up league play this weekend when they play host to New River in a three game series that begins at noon Saturday in a doubleheader and a single game beginning at noon Sunday.
BCC Drops Lakeland 9-2, take three of four
March 11
The Dolphins won a pair from Lakeland Saturday, but were shutdown 9-2 by the Lakers Tuesday after getting one hit while making eight errors. The two teams met Tuesday for the final game and the Fins came away with a 9-2 win to win the series three games to two. The Dolphins pounded out 12 hits, led by Nick Debo, Aaron Mauldin, and Nigel Hester with two each. Mauldin also drove in three runs. Trey Timmerman pitching in relief of Jonathan Carpenter who left the game with a finger injury picked up his first win of the season going four innings allowing just one hit along the way.
Dolphins win series against Spartanburg Methodist
BCC pounded out 11 hits while Freshman Forrest Kerslake held D-1 power SMC to just one hit, as the Dolphins downed the Pioneers 8-0 in route to their 12th win of the season Sunday afternoon. Kerslake in his first college start went the distance allowing just one hit, striking out two and is now 2-0 on the season. The Dolphins put three runs on the board the first two innings which of course was all the home standing Dolphins would need. Nick Yarbrough had three hits, and Chase Gehringer added two and drove in a pair of runs.
The same two teams finished the three game set Tuesday with a Double header. In game one Brunswick’s offense was the key as they pounded out 14 hits. Gehringer continued his hot streak with four hits, including a double and his fifth home run of the season, a three run bomb in the third inning that helped the Fins jump out to a 5-0 lead. Freshman Nick Yarbrough had a pair of doubles in his three hits, and Willie McRae also picked up three singles. Nathan Kuester collected a pair of hits including a double. Pat Corcoran pitched six strong innings, scattering just five hits with five strikeouts in route to the win, evening his record to 1-1 on the season.
In the last game of the series it was a different story as the Pioneers downed BCC 12-3 as the Fins were held to just five hits and pounding Pioneer pitching for 25 hits the first two games. Nolan Clenney one of four pitchers on the day was saddled with the loss. Again it was Gehringer and Yarbrough who led the way at the plate with two hits each. Gehringer added two more doubles. The two scorched Pioneer pitching for right hits each in the three game series. With the loss BCC fell to 13-6 on the season. They return to action March 17 playing host to Delaware State Community College in their last tune up before the regular season begins March 21 as they open up the Region X play hosting New River.
Dolphins win weekend series against Lakeland Community College
March 12
BCC won the doubleheader Saturday against Lakeland CC but were unable to get the sweep losing to the Lakers on Sunday. In the series opener Jason Hunter provided the Fins with a much need superb outing on the mound going seven innings, notching his first college win with a 6-2 win. Hunter scattered just four hits, striking out two, and walking none. Willie McRae pitched the last 1.2 to earn the save. Chase Gehringer provided much of the Dolphins offense with two of the six hits including a double.
The nightcap Saturday was the most exciting game of the series as the Dolphins won 3-2 in nine innings. Trey Timmerman would draw a bases loaded two out walk scoring Nolan Clenney to tie the score 2-2. In the last of the ninth Willie McRae got a one out single, followed by a walk to Chase Gehringer, before Dillon Stewart hit a deep fly to left center scoring McRae from second for the winning run. Stewart had three hits in the game including the walk-off hit. Gehringer hit his 4th homerun of the season and McRae had two hits to lead the Fins at the plate. Forrest Kerslake pitched the 9th and picked up the win on the mound, but it was Chandler Jones that stole the show as he struck out 10 Laker batters in five innings allowing just four hits.
In the series finale it was all Lakeland as they shutout BCC 10-0 behind the one hit pitching of Tyler Straley. He allowed just a 6th inning single to Kyle Mehl. The Dolphins could never get much going at the plate or in the field as six BCC pitchers were the victims of eight errors from their defense. Dolphins rally falls short as they split DH with Muskegon

BCC took advantage of six Muskegon errors and rode the one hit pitching of Nolan Clenney to an 11-0 win Tuesday night at the Ripken Experience. The Dolphins got on the board with six runs in the second on a double, three singles, two walks, and a pair of errors to take control of the game. That was all Clenney needed as he tossed his second shutout of the season, and improved to 2-0 on the season. Clenney retired the last 11 batters he faced.
The Dolphins who were held to just six hits, two by Kyle Mehl, who also drove in two runs and scored a pair. Dillion Stewart and Nick Yarbrough each had double and scored twice.
In the nightcap the Dolphins outhit Muskegon 11-8 but were unable to get the timely hits needed as the Jayhawks did. The biggest game of the night came in the top of the second on a grand slam by Adrian Anderson. Trailing 7-4 in the last of the 7th inning the Dolphins made a hard run to get back into the game. Stewart led off the inning with a sinking liner to right that allowed him to reach third for a triple and later scored on a passed ball. Nick Debo singled to left and reached second on a single to left by Clenney. Nathan Kuester was walked loaded the bases for Nigel Hester who was plunked in the back bringing in a run cutting the deficit to one at 7-6 before a fly ball to left ended the game giving the Jayhawks a 7-6 win.
Chase Gehringer led the offensive attack with two hits including his third homerun and a double. Stewart had two hits with a double and triple. Debo and Kuester each added two hits. Patrick Banks took the loss as the Dolphins fell to 8-4 on the season and return home to a DH Saturday against Lakeland CC and noon.
Dolphins Salvage series with 11 inning thriller

After getting just three hits in a DH loss Saturday, the Dolphins bounced back with a 10-9 extra inning affair to defeat USC-Sumter to avoid the sweep on Sunday at Founders Field. After the Fire Ants broke a 7-7 tie by plating two runs in the top of the 10th, the Dolphins responded with two of their own with three straight singles by Nathan Kuester, Chandler Roberts, and Case Gehringer. Nick Debo drove a one out single into right field driving in a pair to extend the game. Zack Banks shut the Fire Ants down in the top of the 11th. In the home half Nick Yarbrough doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kuester then legged out a two out infield single pushing Yarbrough across for the winning run.
The Dolphins banged out 15 hits on the day, led by Gehringer, Debo, Yarbrough, Kuester, and Dillon Stewart with two each. Marshall Creech also added a triple. Zack Banks the last of six pitchers picked up the win with two innings of action. The Dolphins pitchers struck out nine batters and allowed only three earned runs. Coach Allen got a strong performance from reliever Jason Hunter with five innings.
BCC improved to 7-3 on the season and travel to the Ripken Center Tuesday for a twinbill against Muskegon CC before returning home Saturday for two games against Lakeland CC.
Dolphins sweep doubleheader in cold, rainy Myrtle Beach

BCC Dolphins improve to 6-1 on the season with pair of wins at the Ripken Center February 23. In game 1, a 9-5 win over Western Tech CC, Aaron Mauldin and Chase Gehringer each had 3 hits and scored a pair of runs. Gehringer added a pair of doubles and 3 RBI's for the Fins. Nolan Clenney and Nathan Kuester both added doubles. Willie McRae notched the win with 1,2 hitless innings fanning 4 in picking up his first collegiate win. Patrick Banks was just as effective picking up the save. Banks went 3 strong innings allowing 4 hits with 5 KO's.
In the nightcap the Fins pounded out 16 hits and recieved an outstanding pitching performance from Nathan Clenney in a 13-0 win over College of DuPage. Eight different Dolphins picked up hits, led by Josh Walker and Nick Yarbrough with 3 each. Dillon Stewart, Nick Debo, Chase Gehringer, and Kyle Mehl each added 2 apiece. Walker who added a triple drove in 3 runs. Yarbrough doubled and also drove in 3 runs. Clenney pitched 4 innings allowing just 2 hits while striking out 3. Justin Baker pitched one hitless inning striking out 2 hitters
