Blaze Dominate Home Opener 29-0
ALTOONA. IA - The Des Moines Blaze rebounded from a tough week one loss with a dominant 29-0 victory over the visiting Mountain Lake Lakers Saturday evening at the Spring Creek Sports Complex.
Des Moines dominated the contest from the beginning. High winds kept both teams passing attacks in check but the Blaze ran the ball effectively on the back of Lamar Sayles Jr.'s two scores and Dallas Groom's first touchdown of the season.
The defense smothered the Lakers all night, keeping them out of scoring range. Safety Tahaun Fountain scored his first career touchdown, returning a second quarter blocked punt.
"We left some points out there. The defense did a phenomenal job. Over the first two weeks, Coach (Cale) Carlson really has them dialed in," said Head Coach Tyrone Tyler. "We're acclimating to the nine-man format offensively. This game was a step in the right direction for us."
The Blaze are back at Spring Creek this Saturday, hosting an old MFA foe, the Midwest Rampage. Kickoff is at 6pm.
