Bees starting pitcher Cody Kaestle pitched a one-hit complete game to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over Liverpool on the road on Tuesday.
Liverpool got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when, with one out, a batter walked and another singled, then both stole second and third in a double steal. A groundout to second baseman David Cerqua brought home the runner from third.
But that was all Kaestle was willing to concede for the game, as he buckled down and kept the Bees in the game until the offense caught up.
That didn't take long as the Bees finally scored against Liverpool ace, Jeff DeStefano, in the top of the fourth inning.
With one out, Cam Williams reached on an error as he hustled to beat out a throw. Williams then stole second. Cerqua singled to place runners at first and third. Jarrod Williams, Carson Hayes, and Tommy McKee all walked to plate two runners in the inning, as the Bees took a 2-1 lead.
Liverpool was able to get runners to third base five times in the game but was only able to score one of them, as Kaestle was able to produce 11 groundouts in the game, 8 of them to second baseman, David Cerqua.
The Bees were able to add an insurance run in the seventh inning as Dan Rabe reached on an error. Zach Bush then placed a perfect bunt for a base hit. With two outs, Billy Clifford doubled down the third base line to bring home Elijah Borja who had pinch run for Rabe.
With the leadoff runner reaching first on a walk and advancing to second on a stolen base, Kaestle struck out the next batter and got the next one to fly out to left field. After the runner stole third, the last batter popped up to catcher Tommy McKee to end the game.
Kaestle finished with a one-hit complete game to earn his fourth win of the year against only one loss.
The Bees play Liverpool again on Wednesday.
