The Eagles lost by the score of 5-9 in their second contest against the Sharks this season at Malibu High School. The loss gives Oak Park a 5-3 record in the 101 Coast League and a 5-4 record overall.
The Eagles were not strong on faceoffs and ground balls today. This, along with turnovers, provided Malibu with a real advantage in time of possession. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. Malibu capitalized on two man up opportunities in the 2nd quarter and led the game 3-5 at halftime. The Eagles scored twice in the first two minutes of the second half to tie the score at 5-5, but Oak Park was shut out for the remainder of the game. Goalie Shane Bracken played another strong game in the cage coming up with 13 saves, but Malibu did find the net four more times to secure the victory.
Grant Consoletti scored 2 and had 1 assist. Ryan Helfand had 1 goal and 1 assist. Ryan Shorts and Tyler Chandler each had 1 goal. Teddy Fauver got an assist. Playing in his final game of his high school career before shoulder surgery, Grant Consoletti became the all time leading goal scorer in Oak Park High School history.
The Oak Park JV squad got back on the winning track today with a victory over Malibu bringing their season record to 7-1. The Eagles were a little sluggish in the first two quarters and only held a 2-1 lead at halftime. However, they came alive in the second half to defeat the Sharks by the score of 8-2. Owen Consoletti had 3 goals and 2 assists. Sam Sklar scored twice. Taylor Bray, Brandon Coppel, and Josh Rosen each scored a goal. Evan Saravis and Stephen Bernstein each had an assist.
The Eagles play again on Friday night at OPHS against Oaks Christian.
