It took two games, but the 38+ IronPigs advanced to second round of the NHBL38+ Playoffs on Sunday.
Game #1 saw the IronPigs start slowly with their ace on the mound. Cesar Reyes and the 'Pigs defense allowed 7 runs in the first three innings to trail 7-0 after 3. Reyes and the defense and kept the Bow Falcons in check for rest of the game, but the deficit was too much and thir late rally fell just short as the dropped Game #1 7-6.
With the season on the line, the 'Pigs coaches decided to start Reyes in Game #2, hoping to get 2-3 more innings out of him. What happnened next was amazing as Reyes pitched 7 scoreless innings (after pitching a CG in Game #1). Reyes pitched 16 innings on the day, including 13 straight shutout innings, before finally leaving after the 7th.
The 'Pigs lead 3-0 when he left the game. Wade Ungaro would allow 1 run in the top of 8th, but the IronPigs finally broke out the lumber. Scoring 7 runs in the bottom of 8th to take a 10-1 lead. THe offensive barrage was led by Rigal who led off the 8th with a single (PR Aaron Wovkanech would later score) and then hit a key 3-run double to the left-center gap for the big lead.
Trading runs for outs, Ungaro closed out the game and the IronPigs moved onto the second round by eliminating the Bow Falcons.
Up Next: 3 game series against the second seeded Hooksett Red Sox in the 2-3 matchup. 'Pigs beat the Sox twice this year, 9-2 in late April and 14-5 in June.
