Sunday, April 23, 2017 - Tigers Sweep Doubleheader on the Backs of Willie and Brian
After a storm Saturday night cast a cloud on today’s games, the Tigers came out Sunday morning and found thunder in their bats while looking to sweep a doubleheader versus the Marlton Reds.
Game one featured Tigers starter Mike Terlizzi facing off against a Marlton Reds curveball specialist. It was rough beginning for Terlizzi, as he struggled to find his command against the free swinging Reds. He was able to escape the first inning with a few big strikeouts, but was touched up for three runs in the second. After settling down, the Tigers bats woke up. Willie lead the way with a 2-3 game, with a pair of RBIs, and Brian came in to finish off the game with two solid innings; securing the 6-5 game 1 victory for the Tigers.
Brian would continue where he left off in game one, coming out strong in game two. After being staked to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, the Reds capitalized on some shaky Tiger defense to knot the score up at 4 after one. From that point on, Brian really hit his stride. The Reds would be shut down for the rest of the game until some last inning damage. Brian would end a solid day with 8 innings pitched, two wins, and ten punch-outs. After being shutdown themselves by late-arriving Reds pitcher, Mike, the Tiger bats exploded for eleven runs in the final two innings of game two. Five Tigers had two RBIs, including a clutch blast off the bat of Tommy G that gave the Tigers the lead for good. George paced the Tigers with three 3 RBIs, and Willie padded his totals going 3 for 4. Nicky came on in the 7th and finished off the game two win, 15-7.
The Tigers will attempt to start the season 4-0 when they travel to Trenton Catholic field to face the Trenton Sharks next week.
