Aiken 4, Fox Creek
Bryan Melvin's RBI single in the sixth inning drove in Charles Herring and gave Aiken a valuable insurance run in a 4-3 win Saturday over Fox Creek. Melvin's RBI put the Hornets ahead two going into the seventh inning, and they were able to close it out after allowing the Predators back within one. Landon Dupert's two-run homer gave Aiken an early 2-0 lead, but Fox Creek's Cam Mitchem cut in half with a solo shot. Dalton Graves restored the two-run cushion in the third with a solo blast of his own, but the Predators cut it to one again in the fourth after Aaron Gregory reached base and scored following two errors. Melvin earned the win on the mound for the Hornets, and Adam Holsenback was credited with the save.
Aiken 12, Fox Creek 7
Aiken was victorious again in the second half of the doubleheader. The Hornets trailed 6-5 heading into the seventh, but they cashed in on four Fox Creek errors and three wild pitches to score seven runs and take a commanding lead. The Predators scored twice in the first and fourth innings to go ahead 4-0 before the Hornets responded with three in the fifth when Nolan Grice scored on an error and Dupert singled in two more runs. Each team scored twice in the sixth, and Fox Creek carried the lead into the seventh. Ethan Baughman picked up the win and Treshaun Prupis got the save, and Grice, Dupert and Holdren Drake each drove in two runs for Aiken (2-0), which heads across town Tuesday to face rival South Aiken. Fox Creek (1-3, 1-0 Region 3-AA) hosts Gray Collegiate on Tuesday.
