The Lodi Reds 12 and under baseball team went 2-2-1 that included three games on Monday at the summer annual Cooperstown All-Star Village tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y.
In the third game of Monday, the Baltimore Redbirds of Maryland posted a 9-5 win over the Reds. The Redbirds were ahead 9-0 before the Reds rallied. Parker Burks and Gavin Mora had a home run each for the Reds, while Preston Plath had two hits. Noah Silvia, Joe Focacci and Jayshaun Daranykone had a hit each.
The Reds’ only tie came in the second game on Monday, a 3-3 contest against the Bloomindale Bandits out of Florida. Jayshaun Daranykone went three inning on the mound for the Reds, giving up six hits, while Ryan Camello also went three and gave up four hits. Offensively for Lodi, Carson Devine, along with Austin Meehleis and Mora had two hits each. Joe Elsbree, Plath, Camello, Gage Jimenez and Silvia had a hit each.
In a make-up game on Monday morning, Lodi beat BPT Hurricanes out of Houston, Texas, 3-2. The game was scheduled to be played Sunday but postponed due to rain. Plath was on the mound, and pitched 4 2/3s innings, striking out four and gave up five hits. Daranykone earned the save. On offense, Plath, Focacci and Silvia had hits and Plath, Elsbree and Burks scored a run each.
On Sunday, the Reds posted a 13-1 win over the New Milford Knights out of New Milford, N.J. The game only last four inning because of rain. Devine got the win pitching all four innings and gave up only two hits while striking out two. Plath had three singles and scored twice, followed by Camello, who had a double and a single, three RBIs and scored twice. Devine had two singles and scored twice with an RBI, while Meehleis and Burks added a double. Jimenez, Daranykone, Silvia and Elsbree contributed with a hit each.
Before the start of the tournament, Lodi took third place among 52 teams competing in the skills challenge. The Reds competed in the fastest timed double play. Devine played first base, Elsbree second and Meehleis at shortstop.
