The Lodi Reds youth baseball team’s run in the Cooperstown All-Star Village tournament came to an end early on Thursday with a 6-5 loss to Tabu out of the East Bay in the tournament’s round of 16.
“The journey has ended, but not without saying how proud I am of the young men and coaching staff that have worked so hard all week with one common goal,” said Lodi manager Jason Evans via email. “We lost 5-6 vs. Tabu and will officially root them on the rest of the way.”
Preston Plath gave Lodi a big boost with a three-run home run along with a single, while Joe Focacci had a double and a single, and Joe Elsbree, Gavin Mora, Parker Burks and Carson Devine each had hits.
Lodi finished 5-2-1 in the 52-team tournament, and earned the 11th seed for the knockout phase. The Reds advanced to the round of 16 with Wednesday’s 11-3 win over the Yorkville Fury out of Chicago. Tabu now advances to the tournament’s quarterfinals.
