Dirtbags are CSBL champs
7/30/2018

On Championship Sunday the Dirtbags hosted the CSBL tournament. Entering in as the two seed behind the Lombard Orioles (#1), the day started off with a 6-0 victory over the Oswego Cats. The game started off with the cats threatening but the Dirtbags outfield flexed there muscles with several outfield assists.

Jared Jones (SXU) showed why he is one of the top pitchers in the league throwing 7.2 innings not allowing a run. Ryan Quigley then came in to shut the door the final inning and a third. The Bags compiled 6 runs in the 6th and 7th to punch the 7:30 ticket to the Championship game.

If you a Dirtbag fan you know there is no other opponent you would want to see in the championship other than the Beecher Muskies. This is probably the most exciting and heated rivalry in CSBL history. But back to the game, the Bags were facing a pitcher (Greenfield) who almost three a perfect game against them back in June. The night started off with the Dirtbags allowing 5 runs in the second. Most baseball fanfans would think this game would not end well for the Bags. But the the team was not Fazed, putting up a four spot in the bottom of the second. Steve Hill had a big 2 RBI single. The Muskies and Dirtbags chipped away at each other in the 4th and 5th making the score 8-6 after 5.... Sam Couch (Pitching Coach) made a pitching change to bring in Evan Neislawski (IWU) in the 6th, who shut the door on the Muskies for the next four innings allowing only 1 running to get past 1st base.

Josh Krueger(Judson) gave the bags a huge energy boost with a no doubter over the left center wall to lead off the sixth inning. And in the seventh the Justin Conant (Ball state) and Bailey Schultz (USF) lead off with a walk and HBP, Travis Schoonover and Dustin Krob (Both USF) knocked in 3 more runs to give the Bags their first lead of 10-8. The Bags were not done there, they knew they needed to put another run up so Justin Conant who lead off back to back innings placed a double down the line, and later score on a SacFly from Steve Hill (Moorehead State). There was one thing left to do after Neislawski struck out the final hitter and that was the DOG PILE and celebrations!!!
