2018 marks the 5 year anniversary of our National Championship team. We reached out to the members of that team for a new feature here called Where Are They Now? I think you will see that the 2013 team was one that set the bar high on and off the field while they were at Catholic and continues to do so post-graduation. We hope you enjoy catching up with these guys as much as we did.
Zach Allen – Played football for 4 years and graduated from Trinity University with a bachelor of science in biochemistry and molecular biology, cum laude. He did organic chemistry research for a year, applied to medical school and took the MCAT, in which he scored in the 94th percentile. He was accepted to the Univ of Texas health and science center in San Antonio. He recently started taking those classes and is on pace to be a doctor in four years.
Clarke Berry – Played baseball at Huntingdon College where he also earned a degree in Marine Biology. Following his freshman season he was named to the USA South All-Academic Team. He appeared in 29 games that season, including 16 starts. He is currently living in Montgomery and working in sales.
Evans Bozeman – Signed with East Carolina out of high school but a torn rotator cuff and labrum in his throwing arm led him to retire from the game and return home. After successful surgery he completed his rehab at Andrews Institute. He is currently living and working on Pensacola Beach. In the fall he plans to enroll at West Florida in hopes of earning a Kinesiology degree. In the future he hopes to travel and study abroad.
Jason Borcz Jr – Spent his first year at Trinity University as a member of the football team but an injury abruptly ended those dreams. He then transferred to South Alabama where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering this past spring. He was recently hired by the John H. Carter Company.
Jonjon Burkett – Played baseball for one year at Tallahassee Community College before transferring to Northwest Florida State for a year. He has been working locally and taking classes since that time. He is currently enrolled at Valdosta State, where he plans to resume his baseball career in the spring.
Chandler Burns – Earned a degree from Florida in Exercise Physiology where he was also Summa Cum Laude. Since graduating in the spring, he has spent his summer traveling, including a road trip to the west coast and more recently to Europe. He will begin physical therapy school at UF this fall.
Bronson Chancellor – After graduating in 2014 he was accepted into the United States Naval Academy where he spent four years before graduating this past spring while majoring in Quantitative Economics. He is currently in the Surface Warfare community and in school to begin his training before he deploys this fall on the USS Arlington.
Greg Ciangiotto – Played baseball for 2 years at Jefferson Davis where he met the love of his life, Natalie, who was a member of their volleyball team. He then transferred to South Alabama and then West Florida, where he is wrapping up his studies in Biomedical Sciences. He then plans to take the MCAT and start applying to medical school. Recently got back from Greece where he studied under doctors there for a month. He and Natalie were married on March 4.
Avery Geyer – Redshirted his first year at Mississippi State. Transferred to Northwest Florida State College in 2015 where he started 9 games and posted an ERA of 2.32 to help lead them to the JUCO World Series championship. Spent the next two years pitching for South Alabama, when they won a conference championship, where he earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Spent his senior season playing at West Florida where he is currently working on earning a masters degree in Business and Administration. He is also working with his mother at Petal Bay Boutiques.
Tanner Halstead – Played his first two collegiate seasons at Northwest Florida State College and was the starting catcher for their national championship team in 2015. He received national attention after being the recipient of a fastball to the face in the JUCO World Series and returning just days later to help his team in the championship game. His junior year he received sporadic playing time after transferring to South Alabama. He transferred to West Florida for his senior season where he completed his degree in Sports Management. He was recently hired as an assistant coach by Northwest Florida State College.
Nick Helton – Continued his baseball career at Jefferson Davis. After that, he started working at a horse stable. Currently he is employed by a local marina and is planning to get his contractors license, for which he is currently studying. He is also taking classes towards completing his college degree.
Cody Henry – Played baseball for four seasons at Alabama while earning a degree in Consumer Affairs. Was named the SEC Freshman of the Week his first year. Since graduating he has been working with his father in construction at Thomas Homes and installing and fixing air conditioners for Waters Air Conditioning. He also recently became engaged to his fiancé Amy.
Cooper Jones – Spent four years as a member of the Southern Miss baseball team while earning a degree in Business Administration. In 2014 and in 2016 he was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for academic achievement. In 2015 he was named to USM’s Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. He was recently accepted into Mississippi College School of Law.
Jacob Knorr – Has attended Arizona all four years and will be graduating this year. He is working on a double major in Computer Science and Information Science. His future plans are not set but he is eyeing a career in finance.
Drew LaBounty – Started 3-plus seasons at shortstop at South Alabama and earned a degree in Sports Management. Following his sophomore and junior seasons he was named to the All Sun Belt Conference First Team. He also was named a preseason All Sun Belt Conference First Team player before his career was cut short due to injury during a preseason practice. Drafted in the 40th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was recently hired as an assistant coach by Pearl River Community College.
Brandon Lockridge – 3 year starter for Troy where he played two years at second base and his final season in center field. Following his sophomore season he was named to the All Sun Belt Conference First Team. Following his junior season he won a Rawlings Gold Glove Award. He also broke the school record for most triples in a season and in a career. Drafted in the 5th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the New York Yankees and is currently assigned to their A-Short Season team in Staten Island.
James McGhee – Spent four years as a member of the Duke baseball team while earning a degree in Public Policy with a certificate in Markets & Management Studies. Was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll all four seasons. He also found time to be a contributing member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He is currently traveling abroad for three months, part of which he was able to do with his brother. Moving to Washington, D.C. in January to work for Deloitte under their management consulting practice.
Gavin Wehby – graduated in only 3 years with honors from Nicholls State with a degree in Accounting and was a 3 year starter on their baseball team. In 2018 he switched to Murray State as a graduate transfer and closed out his collegiate baseball career. He is currently working on completing his masters degree and is working with his father at Medifit.
Hunter Wilson – Received his associates degree from Pensacola State College and is currently working on his bachelors degree in Philosophy at the University of West Florida. He is also working full time at his family business, Frit Car, Inc., where he is the Quality Control Manager.
Kai Wilson – Has been involved in student government at Florida and working/volunteering at a couple of departments under dean of students office. Has also joined several different student unions, including dance, cooking and professionals. Took some time off from school to travel before returning to school. Plans to attend law school to either teach English in Asia or intern at a firm. He is currently involved in a church, dancing, and finishing up school.
Zackary Chamberlain Wyant – Attended Washington and Lee University for three semesters and studied economics. He then worked on farms in Minnesota, Georgia, Virginia and Texas. He has been learning organic gardening and animal husbandry. He plans to continue his education at a later date, as he focuses more on present situations.
