Despite allowing five runs in the fourth inning, North Tahoe Lakers Varsity defeated West Wendover 13-8 on Friday. The big inning for West Wendover came thanks to singles by Nel Covarrubias and Jose Trujillo, a walk by Luis Esparza, and by Keegan Neilson.
Bats blistered as North Tahoe Lakers Varsity collected 12 hits and West Wendover tallied six in the high-scoring game.
West Wendover got things started in the first inning. West Wendover scored one run when Trujillo singled.
North Tahoe Lakers Varsity pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Nathan Whisler reached on a dropped third strike, Sam Sheridan tripled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, and Danny Sandoval singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
North Tahoe Lakers Varsity tallied four runs in the sixth inning. Whisler, Koby Mattson, and Sandoval powered the big inning with RBIs.
Jaxon Pokorny took the win for North Tahoe Lakers Varsity. He allowed two hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one. Luke Giacobazzi threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Thomas Rojas took the loss for West Wendover. He went five innings, allowing 13 runs on 12 hits and striking out nine.
Tanner Wilkins started the game for North Tahoe Lakers Varsity. He allowed four hits and six runs over three and a third innings, striking out three.
North Tahoe Lakers Varsity tallied one home run on the day. Mattson went yard in the third inning.
North Tahoe Lakers Varsity tallied 12 hits in the game. Richard Baker, Sandoval, Xander Kriston, and Mattson all managed multiple hits for North Tahoe Lakers Varsity. Mattson, Kriston, Sandoval, and Baker each collected two hits to lead North Tahoe Lakers Varsity.
West Wendover totaled six hits. Trujillo and Covarrubias each racked up multiple hits for West Wendover. West Wendover tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Cristian Rodriguez led the way with two.
