  • Spartans Clings to Victory as Notre Dame Nearly Erases 5-Run Deficit
  • Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Spartans still held off Notre Dame for a 9-8 victory on Sunday. Notre Dame scored four runs in the failed comeback on a groundout by Mercurio, a double by Hird, and a stolen base by undefined.
  • Branden Knorr led Spartans to victory by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. Knorr drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the second, and a single in the sixth.
  • Spartans got things moving in the first inning. Knorr singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
  • Spartans scored three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Spartans was led by Knorr and Zack Skrobot, all knocking in runs in the inning.
  • Notre Dame scored four runs in the sixth inning. Mercurio, Hird, and Grenier all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
  • Justin Steele sealed the victory by snagging a line drive and doubling the runner off of first base. The bases were loaded and anything short of that double play would have allowed Notred Dame to tie things up or walk it off.
  • Christian Burkheiser was credited with the victory for Spartans. He went five and a third innings, allowing eight runs on 11 hits and striking out three. Davis Hixson threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
  • Harns took the loss for Notre Dame. He surrendered three runs on one hit over three innings, striking out two.
  • LaBahn started the game for Notre Dame. He allowed five hits and six runs over two innings
  • Spartans had ten hits in the game. Knorr and Justin Steele all collected multiple hits for Spartans. Steele and Knorr each collected three hits to lead Spartans.
  • Notre Dame racked up 14 hits in the game. Dippeh, Hird, Grenier, and Molumphy each managed multiple hits for Notre Dame.
