In Pitchers' Duel, Mike Terlizzi leads SJ Tigers to win 3-2 over Haddon Twp Rangers

Sunday, July 14, 2019 - Haddon Twp, NJ - On Sunday morning, the Haddon Township Rangers welcomed the SJ Tigers to Haddon township for their second battle of the season. The Tigers and the Rangers had two of the hottest lineups in the 35+ National Division. So, as everyone predicted, the game was a low scoring pitching affair.

Both teams pitched well on Sunday, but the Tigers were just a tad bit better. This led to a 3-2 victory. With the win, the Tigers are now 10-2 on the season. Mike Terlizzi started for the SJ Tigers and was looking for his fifth win of the season. The Rangers countered with righty Tom Hewitt. Both starting pitchers were on their game on Sunday.

Early on, the Tigers found success against Rangers. Richie Rodriguez and Tommy Gardiner both singled with one out in the Third inning and scored on a sacrificed fly by Joan Hereida and an RBI single by Amaury Mena to give the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead.

The Rangers came right back and scored one run in the bottom of the third. The Tigers kept the pressure on and scored one more run in the fourth when Mike Terlizzi and Jose Hernandez batted two consecutive hits. Mike later scored on an RBI single by Richie Rodriguez to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. The Rangers were able to score another run in the sixth to make it 3-2.

Terlizzi was locked in from the start on Sunday. He struck out five batters, walked two, and allowed only 2 runs in seventh innings.

After 7th strong innings, Mike handed it over to reliever, Jesus Rodriguez (JR). JR did not have it on Sunday since he was having shoulder issues. He only faced two batters before calling it quit and giving the reigns to Amaury Mena who shut down the Rangers for 1 and 2/3 innings, walking 3 and striking out 2.

S.J Tigers return to action on Sunday, July 21, 2019 against the Aston A’s at their home field, Monsignor Bonners & Archbishop Prendergast High School field, in Drexel Hill, PA.
