Tigers pull out 8-6 Extra Innings Win
Washington Twp., NJ - In a 7-inning game last Sunday, June 23rd, 2019, Tommy Gardiner drove in two runs in the top of the 8th inning to lead the Tigers to an 8-6 victory against the Washington Twp. Senators.
After three consecutive singles by Jose Hernandez, Allan Forsyth, and Willie Rivera in the top of the eight inning, Tommy Gardiner stepped to the plate and delivered a go-ahead two run clutch single to score Jose Hernandez and Allan Forsyth and send his teammates pouring out of the dugout down the third-base line. The Tigers then shut down the Senators in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a nail biting 8-6 win.
Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Senators rallied to tie the game 6-6 and had a chance to win the game with the bases loaded and only one out. But, the Senators could not get it done. The Senators batter hit a ground ball to short stop Jose Hernandez who caught and threw home for the second out, and Willie Rivera, the Tigers' catcher, turned it into a double play by getting the batter out on first base.
On the mound, Starter, Tommy Gardiner, worked 5 strong innings and allowed allowing six earned runs on seven hits and ten walks. Mike Terlizzi was effective in relief as he tossed two scoreless innings and allowed just two hits with one strikeout.
S.J Tigers return to action on Sunday, June 30, 2019 against the SJ Nationals at their home field, Cherry Hill Rotary field, in Cherry Hill, NJ.
