East Coast Michigan is proud to announce the commitment of John Hurtubise to Carleton College in Minnesota. 

 

John came to ECM as a junior and immediately brought a tremendous work ethic and intensity to our program. He quickly showed he was eager to learn and willing to put the time in to improve his game. He showed great leadership on the 16u this summer and we look forward to seeing him develop and grow this year on the 18u. Congrats John!

 

John answered a few questions regarding his college decision.

 

What are your reasons for choosing the college that you did? 

 

I chose Carleton because of the high level of academics and my close connection to the Carlton community. My sister is a senior at Carleton college which gives me unique insight into what opportunities are provided and the community in and around Carleton.

 

Who has influenced your baseball career? 

 

The people who have influenced my baseball career the most are my father, the ECM coaching staff, and my teammates. My dad has always supported me and given me the opportunities to grow as a player. The ECM coaching staff taught me the skills that are required to play at the next level of baseball. Finally, my teammates have always been my role models and motivators to put in the work necessary to become a better player.

 

Why did you choose to play for ECM? 

 

I chose to play for ECM because of the good track record but also because of the people in the program. Many of my past team mates came to the program in years prior which gave me an idea of what the program was like and the level of players in the program.

 

How has ECM helped prepare you for the next level? 

 

Every single player on the ECM roster is trying to play at the next level, this gives a high intensity feeling at every practice. This motivated me to put in more work in and out of practice preparing me for the next level. Also, all of the coaching staff were skilled and knowledgeable enough to give me the information I needed to succeed.

 

How has playing for ECM helped throughout the college recruiting process? 

 

Not only has ECM prepared me as a player for college recruiting but Coach Sheppard has contacts with so many college coaches. He was able to give me contacts for many of my choice schools and for the schools he didn't have contact with he was able to reach out and get ahold of a coach. It felt as though through the whole process he was actively trying to help create opportunities for me which no other coach has done.
