On a beautiful, but windy Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field in Troy, the Brother Rice Warriors (40-1) completed a 5-0 Season Sweep over Orchard Lake St. Mary's by beating the Eaglets 10-3. It was a standing room only crowd, as two of the top teams in the state faced off for the 5th time this season. Despite taking a 2-0 lead midway through the game, the Eaglets' good fortune eventually ran out as Rice exploded for 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Rice ended up scoring 10 straight runs to take control of the game and eventually cruise to a 7-run victory.
The Warriors sent (Junior RHP) Blake Ilitch to the hill on 4 days rest. He pounded the strike zone for all 6 innings that he pitched. With the game scoreless after 2 innings, he allowed a solo Home Run to the 9-hitter in the 3rd to give St. Mary's a 1-0 lead. One inning later, the Eaglets tallied another solo Home Run to make it a 2-0 ball game.
In the bottom of the 4th, the Warriors responded back in a big way. (Freshman DH) Broder Katke led off the inning with a walk. (Senior SS) Tristan Crane followed the walk with a deep Home Run to CF, his 9th of the season, to tie the score at (2-2). Back-to-back doubles from (Junior LF) Cole Vanameyde and (Senior 2B) Max Orozco gave Rice their first lead of the game at 3-2. Two batters later (Senior 1B) Ryan Tyranski registered his 2nd hit of the game by singling sharply to CF. Orozco scored to make it a 4-2 Brother Rice lead.
In the 5th, Rice added one more run to the scoreboard. (Senior 3B) Chase Vanameyde blooped a double down the RF foul line and then scored 2 batters later as Tristan Crane drove a single to RF to make it a 5-2 game. The flood gates opened in the 6th as (Junior CF) Cash Vanameyde doubled. Ryan Tyranski finished his perfect day with a Home Run to Center, his 7th of the year. (Senior C) Owen Turner added an opposite field Home Run, his 10th of the season. And Tristan Crane smashed his 2nd Homer of the game to make it a 10-2 game. St. Mary's added one run in the 7th before the game ended on a grounder to third base.
The Warriors are now scheduled to play Seaholm at 10:00 A.M. at Wayne State University on Saturday morning. If they advance, they'd play the winner of Woodhaven and Allen Park at 3:00 P.M. at the same location.
