Over the Mountain! Powered By Dobosh's 5 RBI, Sox Finally Topple Rangers
7/23/2025by Ronald Belford Scott

Losers of 4 of 5 in COBA league play. Reeling from two consecutive winless tournaments. Injuries in and out of the lineup. Facing league-leaders, Etobicoke Rangers who they are 0-3 against this season. No worries... 16 runs, 17 hits later ...

Owen Dobosh drove in 5 runs with 3 doubles to lead the Red Sox past Etobicoke 16-5 on Wednesday eveing. Dobosh totaled 6 bases for the game and has been an offensive force since returning from an early season injury.

Milton got the ball rolling in the 1st inning, tallying 9 hits and 7 runs while sending 12 to the plate. Dobosh doubled twice in the inning, while Chris Bloom singled twice to set the table for his #2 hitter. Jakob Siracusa, Chris Smorenburg, Christian D'Cruz, Josh Maxwell, and Ben Singh all cashed hits in the frame, with Smorenburg lashing an opposite-field double to break the game open.

Etobicoke would grind out a run their half of the 4th off starter Dylan Clark, who would go 5 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run (1 ER), striking out 3, and walking 3. The righty would earn his 2nd win of the season after several no-decisions in recent weeks.

Milton would again fire up the offence in the 5th inning after Etobicoke sent out their 4th pitcher of the game. After Ethan Xavier's leadoff walk, the speedy rookie outfielder would go first-to-third on Bloom's 3rd single of the game. WIth one out, Dobosh would hit a laser through the Rangers' 2nd baseman to score both Xavier and Bloom, with Dobosh ending up at 2nd via the throw from the outfield. With two out, Liam Butchereit cashed Dobosh with a hard single, Smorenburg and D'Cruz then walked to load the bases, and the former would score on another clean single by Maxwell, who would advance to 2nd on the throw. After consecutive walks to Xavier and Singh, Bloom was plunked to score Maxwell, and Dobosh would cap his night with another double, this time into to right field corner to plate Xavier and Singh. Sox totally in control 16-1 at this point.

Ryan Carey would relieve Clark and pitch one inning of scoreless relief, baffling hitters with his control and off-speed stuff as he often does. Eric Beharri would come out to pitch the 7th, and while allowing 4 runs (3 ER) he threw 84% of his pitches for strikes.

Dobosh and Bloom led the offence with 3 hits apiece. Smorenburg, Maxwell, Butchereit, and D'Cruz each collected 2 hits on the evening. Xavier, and D'Cruz each walked twice, and the Sox turned two double plays defensively.

Two nights after eclipsing their 2025 win total, the Sox jumped into the double-digit win column to notch their 10th victory for 2026. Milton now sits at 10-9, one-half game behind Burlington for 1st place in their division. With 5 games remaining in the COBA regular season, Milton has two games left with each of Burlington, and Waterloo - both close in the division standings. No doubt the next few weeks will determine the division title.

The Sox will play their final game before the Senior Elimination Tournament (August 1-4, in Windsor) when they face the Brampton Royals this coming Saturday, July 26. Game time 1:30 pm, Glenn Turner Field at Milton Community Park.
