Lack Of Clutch Hitting; Bullpen Lead In Loss to Brampton
7/26/2025by Gordon Sumner

A quickly paced game Saturday afternoon, turned gloomy in the late innings as the Red Sox' brief 2-game win streak was halted as Brampton beat the Red Sox 10-2.

Scoreless for 6 innings - a pitching duel, fueled by some timely defence from both sides kept the game knotted at zeros for the first two-thirds of the afternoon. Brampton would break through in the 7th inning off reliever Adrian Cookson and plate a pair of runs on 3 hits, including a leadoff triple that came home to roost, giving the visitors from the Flower City a late 2-0 advantage.

MIlton would answer right back courtesy of Owen Dobosh's first COBA Senior home run, tying the game at 2-2 headed to the 8th. Cookson headed back out for the 8th and after walking the leadoff hitter, an ensuing double, a sacrifice fly, a stolen base, a wild pitch, and a clean single to cap the scoring - Brampton would score 3 more to take a 5-2 lead heading to Milton's bottom half.

The Sox offence would not have an answer, while the Royals stung reliever Rhys Tapper for 5 more runs (5 ER) in the 9th to take the game, running away.

Chris Cloes started for the Sox, pitching 6 scoreless innings in his best game of the season to date. The righty allowed 4 hits, striking out 3, and walking 3. Milton compiled 11 hits for the game with Dobosh, Josh Maxwell, and Jakob Siracusa earning two apiece.

Defensively, the Sox committed no errors and turned one double play, which was highlighted by Maxwell's hose from right field to cut a Brampton runner tagging from 3rd to keep the game scoreless early on.

The Red Sox, once again, find themselves at the .500 mark for the regular season at 10-10. The team will have the week off to prepare for the Senior Elimination Tournament held in Windsor from August 1-4. Afterwards, the team returns home to face their division rivals; Burlington Brants next Wednesday, August 6. Game time 7:30 pm Glenn Turner Field at Milton Community Park.
