Siracusa Drives in 4; Leads Red Sox Past Brants on Season's Final Day

On the final scheduled day of the COBA Major regular season, Jakob Siracusa saved the day for the Red Sox, as he drove in 4 runs to lead Milton past Burlington 7-4 on a beautiful Wednesday evening at Nelson Park. The win gave the Red Sox a final 13-11 regular season record - good for 2nd in their division, and a solid, mid-pack 4th seed in this weekend's upcoming COBA Major Playoffs.

Getting a rare start at thrid base, Siracusa doubled twice to the fence - driving in two runs in each in the 5th, and a much needed banger with two outs in the 8th inning.

Milton broke the scoreless tie in the 5th, thanks to Siracusa's first double of the game; scoring Chris Bloom, and Christian D'Cruz, who had doubled, and singled, respectively with one out. The Sox padded their lead to three when pinch hitter Ben Bishop battled to drive in the 3rd Milton run with a deep-count, gutsy RBI fielder's choice in the 7th.

Reliever Oliver Reyes was one pitch from closing out the Brants' 7th inning, when a two-out triple down the right field line scored two to cut the Sox lead to 3-2. An error by right fielder Josh Maxwell would plate the 3rd Burlington run to knot the score heading to the 8th.

But, as he has done all season - Siracusa would come up clutch. After Bloom and D'Cruz had both reached with two out in the 8th, Siracusa mashed his 2nd double of the game to put the Red Sox back up by a pair. Maxwell would then draw a walk before pinch hitter Matt Fusco lined a solid single up the middle to score Siracusa to make it 6-3 Milton.

The Brants would hit a moon shot off Sox reliever Kyle Clark in their 8th to cut the score to 6-4 heading to the 9th. Milton would add a much needed insurance run via a Bloom double scoring Liam Buckley, who had reached via fielder's choice, advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball to get into scoring position. First baseman Chris Smorenburg would swap places with Clark in the bottom of the 9th and pitched a clean inning for his first save of the season.

Dylan Clark started on the mound for Milton, throwing 2 innings and allowing no hits, and no runs. From there, a cavalacde of relivers danced throught the Brants' lineup surrendering only 4 hits for the game. Rhys Tapper with 1 IP, Eric Beharri with 2 IP, and Reyes - who would earn his first win as a member of the Senior Sox, pitched two innings of middle relief. Kyle Clark, and Smorenburg capped the win and sent the Milton squad into the playoffs riding a 3-game winning streak.

The Sox tallied 14 hits for the game, with Bloom, and SIracusa leading the way with 3 apiece. D'Cruz collected two knocks, while Bloom swiped two bases and up his season total to 10. Defensively, Milton committed 3 errors, and turned two double plays on the evening.
