On Saturday at Wheaton College's Lee Pfund Stadium, the Muskies faced off against the Diesel from Buffalo, NY in the first quarterfinal game of the 2026 NABF World Series. Muskie starter Brandon Dubois (pictured) held the Diesel in check for six innings as he surrendered no runs on two hits. Meanwhile, Diesel starter Matt Bradley held the Muskies in check until the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Muskies loaded the bases and with two out, Tyler Brody was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, an error scored one run, and Bren Milburn singled, scoring two runs. Beecher closer Zack Millsap came on in relief of Dubois and quickly retired the first two Diesel hitters. Then the Buffalo squad rallied for five runs on five hits plus a Muskie error to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the final frame. Gabe McHugh led off with his fourth hit of the game, a single to right field. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and then to third on Taylor Fuerst's sacrifice bunt. After Marty Coyle went down on strikes, McHugh as the tying run remained ninety feet away. Andrew Mack hit a slow roller to shortstop and appeared to slide over first base ahead of the throw, but was called out to end the game and the Muskies' season.
The Diesel advanced to a semifinal contest with the Lombard Orioles late Saturday where they fell by a score of 3-1. The Orioles faced off against the South Bend Royals who defeated Hackensack Troast in their semifinal matchup. The championship game Sunday at Lee Pfund Stadium saw the Orioles take home the 2026 World Series title with a 7-1 victory over the Royals.
