Junior Teams Head to Provincials

August 19, 2009

The Junior Provincial baseball championships will be held this weekend with two North Dufferin League teams participating.

The Bolton Braves juniors have entered the 'D' classification tournament in Wallaceburg, where they will join teams from St. Thomas and Kincardine. Bolton will play each team twice, with the top two teams advancing to the championship game. Bolton will play Kincardine on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and St. Thomas Friday at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

The second team competing at the 'B' classification tournament are the Barrie Red Sox 'B'. Though they are in the senior division this season, the team is made up of mostly junior aged players and therefore decided to contend at the junior level for the Provincials. Barrie will travel to Chatham for a five team, double knockout tournament.

The schedule has Barrie receiving a bye in the first round and will play either Milton or Hamilton in the second round on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. With a win or loss, Barrie will play Saturday at either 2 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.
