Orangeville Juniors Ontario 'C' Champs
August 23, 2010
The Orangeville junior Bengals are Ontario Champions after a weekend of baseball in London. The Bengals participated in the 'C' classification tournament of the Ontario Baseball Association Playoffs and went undefeated in five games to claim the title.
The championship game was the most exciting match in the tournament when Orangeville met Dundas in a nail-biting 16-inning game. The marathon game was tied at one apiece after the regular seven innings and remained tied for eight more frames until Orangeville scored in the bottom of the 16th to take the game 2-1.
The weekend started with a 4-1 win for Orangeville over Port Hope Friday evening, followed by a 5-1 win against Dundas Saturday morning. A second game on Saturday was postponed due to weather until Sunday morning where Orangeville defeated Dresden 6-0. Later Sunday, Orangeville defeated SW London 7-6, which put them into the championship game to meet Dundas for a second time. Eight teams including Orangeville competed in the tournament.
Bolton junior Braves were in the 'B' championship tournament held in Chatham. Bolton finished in third place out of five teams. They met and beat Harrow in the first game 4-2 Friday evening, giving Bolton a bye to the third round. Bolton played Stratford in that game Saturday afternoon, but was overpowered 9-1. In the quarterfinals on Sunday morning, Bolton was defeated by Stratford again with a 5-2 decision, which eliminated them from the tournament. Stratford went on to win the 'B' title with an 11-2 win over Milton.
Both Orangeville and Bolton are members of the local North Dufferin League. Senior teams in the League will be heading to their OBA tournaments over the Labour Day Weekend. New Lowell and Creemore have classified 'B', while Ivy, Barrie, Bolton 'A' and Orillia will attend the 'C' tournament. Bolton 'B', Lisle, and Midland will represent in the 'D' class.
