The Clearview Orioles made it to the finals of the Senior 'C' provincial championship today (Sept. 6), losing a nail-biter of a game to Clarington 9-8.

The back and forth contest was decided in the seventh frame when Clearview scored in the top of the inning to tie it at eight a piece only to see Clarington score the walk-off run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.

Clearview opened the tournament with two wins, 5-3 over Essex and 5-4 over Amherstburg. In round three the team received a bye. The Orioles third game featured the two undefeated teams, Clearview and Clarington, with Clarington squeaking out a 5-4 win. Clearview met Port Hope in semi-final action, dominating the game with a 16-5 outing. The win advanced the Orioles to face Clarington again, needing to defeat them twice for the championship.

The Clarksburg Blues and Midland Mariners were also at the 'C' tournament.

Clarksburg started the tournament against Mitchell in a marathon game lasting 13 innings. The Blues led until Mitchell tied it in late innings to extend the game. Mitchell capitalized on a sacrifice fly to take the game 9-8. Meeting Dresden in their second game, Clarksburg fell 9-5.

The Midland squad suffered an opening 7-6 loss to Thorold. The team came back and trounced the Tilsonburg club 16-6 and handily defeated Essex 10-1 in round three action. The Mariners were eliminated in a 13-7 loss to Dresden.

The 'AA' tournament in Woodslee had the Bolton Brewers losing their opening game to Kincardine 8-3 and then bowing out with a 10-0 loss to Tecumseh.

The New Lowell Knights, also at the 'AA' event, played four games making it to the semi-finals on Sunday. The Knights picked up two early wins with a 13-1 thumping of Welland followed by a 7-2 victory over Woodslee. In their third game, they met the strong Kincardine team and lost 7-1. With four remaining teams, the Knights were downed by Merritton in a close 2-1 game. Kincardine defeated Merritton 12-2 in the final to take the 'AA' title.

Barrie Angels were the lone league team at the 10-team 'B' tournament in Port Lambton. The Angels suffered a 7-2 loss to Port Lambton and were knocked out of contention by Essex in a 4-3 game.
