The SkyHawks lost to J.C. Brager 14-9 yesterday in the championship game of the Elkhorn Wood Bat Tournament. The SkyHawks battled back from a 7-0 deficit to tie it 9-9 in the 7th inning, but J.C. Brager came back and scored 5 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The SkyHawks finished 4-1 in the wood bat tournament. The boys' play was very impressive and now they have 2 days off with practice before they leave to Rapid City for another difficult tournament.

Other rules in the tournament is 9 innings instead of 7, no courtesty runners for the pitcher or catcher, and no-rentry of players. With the SkyHawks only having 11-12 healthy players it has been a fun but tiring tournament.
The SkyHawks came out in the first game against Lincoln U-Stop (Lincoln East) and defeated U-Stop 10-0. Mike Thedinga threw a complete game 2 hitter while striking out 6. Offensively the SkyHawks were led by Jaime Johnson's 3 hits, while Andrew Gard and Tom Ruzicka each had 2 hits apiece.
In the second game of the day turned night was Elkhorn Post 211. Every game with Elkhorn is a good rivalry game that sometimes get heated. The SkyHawks won the 4 hour game 7-5 in 12 innings. Mike Servais got the start on the mound for the SkyHawks and threw a very impressive 6 innings while striking out 7. Brett Swain laid down a perfect suicide squeeze in the top of the 12th inning to score 2 runs. John Elliott came in relief and threw 5 1/3 innings of 1 hit relief to get the win. Elliott also had a huge game offensively, going 4-6 with 4 RBI's with 2 doubles.
Saturday brought on the Vikings from Omaha North. Ryan Bolt got his first career Oakview Construction SkyHawk start and didn't disappoint. Ryan threw a great 8 innings of 6 hit ball while striking out 7 to get the win. Jaime Johnson threw a perfect 1-2-3 9th inning in relief.
Offensively, the SkyHawks were led by Corey Stringer, Andrew Gard, and John Elliott each with 2 hits apiece. Gard had 3 RBI's, and Dave Gottschalk keeps finding ways on base and steals 2 bases.
The SkyHawks went a perfect 4-0 in pool play after defeating Deeb Eagles 8-7 in a close game at the end. Zach Croonquist continued his solid summer pitching by going 7 innings and striking out 10. Dave Gottschalk scored 4 of the 8 SkyHawk runs with 4 BB's and 2 SB's. Corey Stringer, Andrew Gard, and Tom "Chicago White Sox" Ruzicka each had 2 hits.
