SKYHAWKS FINISH 3-2 IN PEV EVANS TOURNAMENT IN RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA
Congratulations to the SkyHawks and their impressive play during the Pev Evans Tournament in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The SkyHawks finished 3-2 in the tournament. On Thursday night the SkyHawks took on the host Post 22 squad from Rapid City. The SkyHawks prevailed 5-0 behind the strong pitching of ace Zach Croonquist. Croonquist is now 8-0 on the season. Zach threw a complete game with 7K's. Jaime Johnson led the SkyHawks going 3-4 with a 2B, and Jon Keck also went 2-3 with a 2B. Andrew Gard and Brett Swain each added 2 hits on the night.
Friday afternoon brought on the North Dakota defending State Champion Minot. The SkyHawks lost a close game 6-5 with Minot scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs and the bases loaded. John Elliott and Corey Stringer each had 3 hits on the day.
Saturday started with a game against Wyoming runner-up Gillette. The SkyHawks won 13-4. Brett Swain threw a complete game victory while only giving up 4 hits. It was an offensive outburst for the SkyHawks with 3 HR's. That is right, I said 3 HR's!!!! John Elliott hit his 1st ever HR well over the right field fence in the 1st inning to drive in 2. Elliott ended up going 2-3 with 3 RBI's. Corey Stringer hit a 3 run line drive HR in the 4th inning to go 3-4 with 5 RBI's on the day. HGH pumping David Gottschalk shocked the entire crowd by hitting a grand slam off the right field foul pole in the 4th inning.
The 2nd game of Saturday was against Prior Lake, Minnesota. Mike Thedinga threw a complete game victory in a 11-6 win. Corey Stringer hit another HR in the 3rd inning of the game to end up with 2 RBI's in the game. Jaime Johnson and David Gottschalk each had 2 hits with Gottschalk ending up with 3 RBI's with a 2B and a 3B.
The SkyHawks had a chance to possibly win the tournament on Sunday against Bozeman, Montana but the Bucks of Bozeman played sparkling defense by turning 4 double plays to retire the SkyHawks 7-2. Corey Stringer and Jaime Johnson each had 2 hits for the SkyHawks.
