On Friday, the Eagles travelled to Malibu H.S. to take on the Sharks. In their first meeting, Malibu held OP in check in the first half before the Eagles pulled away late for an 11-3 victory. This time around, the OP offense was ready for the Sharks' zone defense and jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 14-0 win. Alex Wenker led the way with four goals, but this night was all about the Eagles defense.
Early on Brendan Jasso shut down Malibu’s best player while Mark Goodnough, Max Bulko and Austin Roundy pressured the rest of the Sharks’ offense into numerous turnovers. Mitch Hedlund, Jake Chesson, Joe Peters and Brandon Byer also came up with big defensive stops while the short stick defense of Taylor Bray, Tyler Chandler and Hunter Jamison contributed to the shutout. Shane Bracken made several spectacular saves in the first half before giving way to Dino Ridino who shut the door the rest of the way.
Next up, “rivalry week” as the Eagles host Agoura on Wednesday before hitting the road on Friday to take on Oaks Christian.
