What a difference a week makes. Just seven days ago the Eagles suffered their first home loss to Oaks Christian in a game where OP looked lackluster while OC looked sharp in winning 10-6 in a game that wasn’t really that close. Tuesday night’s first round playoff game was different as both teams came ready to play. While the Eagles jumped out to a 7-3 lead midway through the third quarter, the Lion’s fought back to tie the score at 7, 8 and 9 late in the fourth. Jake Lam scored on a beautiful running right hander with time running down and Shane Bracken closed the door on OC to secure the win.
Speaking of Bracken and Lam, there has been a lot of talk surrounding this team about senior leadership. That leadership was certainly on display this night where not only Shane and Jake came up big, but also the defense of Goodnough and Jasso, the two way play of Jamison and Chandler, the passing and groundball work of Johnson and Zach Shorts and the scoring by Wenker. If Peanut’s Linus was in the house, he’d be quoted as saying “…now that’s what senior leadership is really all about Charlie Brown”.
And SoCal lacrosse has this type of senior leadership to deal with for years to come as Ryan Shorts, Josh Rosen, Joe Peters and Brandon Eagan also had huge games.
On Thursday, the Eagles attempt to become the first OP team to win two playoff games since going CIF in 2008. The Eagles travel to Newbury to take on a Panthers squad that beat them 6-5 early in the year. Stay tuned to the website for the game time and be sure to come out and support our boys.
