Former Alaska Avalanche goaltender and South Anchorage High School standout Nathan Corey is headed for Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., according to www.collegehockeyrecruits.com.

Amherst competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, which is often referred to as the “Little Ivies.” Like the Ivy League, schools in the NESCAC have quite high academic standards.

Corey left Alaska and the Avalanche program following the 2007-08 season for the East Coast in order to earn a chance to play college hockey for a top academic school in that area.
Corey was 6-5-0 in 16 games with the New England Huskies of the Eastern Junior Hockey League in 08-09.

Last season, Corey was 4-18-2 with a .887 saves percentage and 4.59 goals against average during his only season with the Avalanche.
