Basketball at PVI - Share the Game

"The Basketball program at Paul VI give students the opportunity to compete at a championship level, while we teach them the importance of teamwork, leadership and having fun. Our team is filled with great kids with big hearts. They understand that we all give back to the game we love and it’s part of the responsibility of being a basketball player. I think our players and coaches had the most fun of anyone out on the court. Teaching the game gives us great joy."

- Glenn Farello - Varsity Basketball Coach

Playing at PVI

"Playing for Coach Farello was the best high school experience I could have asked for. The lessons I learned in the program have stuck with me not only on the court, but off. The hard work and determination he demanded out of all of us, helped win the school's first ever State Championship my senior year." ~2009 Grad Erick Green - Virginia Tech

"Playing for Coach Farello was great experience. He truly showed us everyday that he cared about us, not only as developing basketball players but as young men. PVI is a great atmosphere and it would be hard to find so much community support at any other high schooL" ~2012 - Patrick Holloway - George Mason

More than Basketball

On Saturday, January 14, the Varsity Basketball team at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax hosted a basketball clinic for nearly 90 Special Olympic athletes representing nearly 10 teams from Area 26. Held in Paul VI’s Panther Activity Center, athletes were led through warms-up by players and coaches and then rotated through eight stations focusing on passing, shooting, guarding and teamwork.

According to Chris Desmarais, Director of the PVI Options program, “The basketball players were completely engaged with the Special Olympic athletes and the two and a half hours flew by. When I see young people who have been endowed with physical and mental talent learning tolerance and patience, sharing their talents, and having fun, I cannot help but feel grateful and humbled that we get to have a hand in this goodness.”
