About the Black Ice Hockey

“BLACK ICE HOCKEY”

The Black Ice Hockey program was started in 1999 for extra ice time to help a local high school hockey team in Rutland, Vermont. The team has evolved over the years to a select pre/post season team(s) that includes Squirts, Peewee, Bantams, Midget or High School age hockey players from any state or country.  These players are selected from Skills Assessment that are run by the Black Ice Hockey Association or from scouting any youth teams or varsity players during the high school season.

The Black Ice hockey Association team(s) are a select Squirt, Peewee, Bantam and Midget/High School age USA Hockey registered hockey team based out of Waterbury, South Burlington and Rutland, Vermont.  Black Ice will play a select number of tournaments in the spring and summer, after the high school season.  There is also a fall season, with tournaments and or games on weekends, prior to the high school season resumes.  Black Ice will have skill assessment at the beginning of each season when needed.

Black Ice Hockey has a core group of players that are on the team each season.  Not every player is considered a core Black Ice player, even if they played the season prior to the skill assessment for the upcoming season.  We have the Black Ice Hockey skills assessment each season, looking for players that show a commitment to play, be part of a team concept and will play hard each and every game during each seasons.  The Black Ice coaches will make these selections during each season based on skill, attitude, respect and the love for the game.

Black Ice will take the responsibility for scheduling skills assessment, tournaments, tournament fees, game’s, ice fees, scheduling referees, referee fees, hotel blocks, registering the team with USA Hockey, jerseys and any other need for the team. The Black Ice seasonal fee is at a minimum and will vary each season based on the cost of ice time, tournament fees, referee’s and any other costs that accrue.  Black Ice welcomes any sponsors and any donations to help offset the team’s expenses each season.  A sponsor’s name can be included on the Black Ice web site and on a Black Ice banner that travels with the team(s) for a minimum $400 donation.

Players are responsible for their own equipment, hotel cost, travel arrangements, and any extra travel costs.  They are also responsible for making each game on time and calling the coaches (head coach) two days or sooner if they can’t make that game or weekend. Each player will also be responsible for registering with USA Hockey online and providing their USA Number to the head coach so they can be included on the roster for that season.
