About the Firehawks

The Firehawk's mission is to provide a safe and fun environment for Calgary players to develop individual hockey skills in order to prepare them for the next winter season.

Often we hear people say that successful teams and players show a lot of heart. Canadian players have always been known to show tremendous heart during international events. We will be teaching and preaching "HEART" in everything we do. Often people say it but few know what heart means. For the Firehawks "HEART" means:

H - Hard work - many short comings can be overcome by hard work. Great teams demonstrate hard work in everything they do. We will stress hard work in all of our activities.

E - Energy and Enthusiasm - it is contagious. Our coaches will have it and it will rub off on the players. Our players will show it in every drill and game we have, on the bench, during on ice activities and during games.

A - Attitude - is the right frame of mind to play and contribute positively to a team and personal success. Our coaches will provide feedback by using positive reinforcement. There is always a positive way to behaveand we will ensure each player demonstrates a positive attitude towards hockey and their fellow players.

R - Respect and Responsibility - shown to teammates, refs, coaches, players, facility, parents and opposition. Many of the bad things we read about hockey in the paper come from a lack of respect. This will not be tolerated in our program.

T - Team-first - hockey is a team game and it takes all members of the team to succeed. This will be stressed in our games as each player will have the same opportunities to develop and play fairly with peers his own age. We will develop and encourage the concept of team, through player participation in on and off-ice activities.  Using teammates for support on and off ice will improve team’s success.  Not one players is better than all of us together.
