The Darien Hockey League offers an opportunity for players from ages 6 to 15 years of age to practice and play games on weekends. Hawks coaches conduct the practices on Saturdays to prepare players for their Sunday games.
Players are evaluated over the first weekend and placed on teams based on their ability, size and age. This is a non-checking league and our goal is to build a player's love of the game through equal ice time and skill development. We try to balance all teams to give every player an opportunity to compete for the championship.
Our in house league is one of the largest in the Chicagoland area. In house sessions typically begin for Fall the first weekend in September, for Winter the first weekend in January and for Spring the first weekend in April. Teams play one game and have one practice each week at Darien. The time slots are always on Saturdays and Sundays. An advantage of the in house program is that it gives children who cannot commit to a travel schedule the opportunity to still play hockey. This allows the kids to play other sports like football, basketball and soccer. Some in house kids will make the transition to travel hockey and others will always play in house.
The important thing is both will always know they had fun and they had a chance to play one of the best sports around...HOCKEY!
