This is a Preschool through 8th grade youth wrestling program (age 4 & up).
The purpose of this program is to teach and enhance basic wrestling skills and techniques to our youth as a feeder system for the future of the
Practices will begin early Januray and will be held 2 times per week (Tuesday & Thursday). All practices will be held in the wrestling room at KCHS (new gym). Pre-K - 2nd will practice from 5:45pm to 6:45pm; 3rd - 8th from 6:45pm to 8:15pm. With the new mats in the wrestling room there is not much room for spectators. Therefore, any parents who are not going to help with practices please just drop them off at the appropriate start time and then pick them up at the end of their practice. Any parent with questions or comments will be addressed in the coaches film room on the main floor. The first practice will be Thursday, January 16, 2020.
Huskerland tournaments are held locally throughout the season during late January through March. Tournaments are normally held on Saturdays but occasionally a tournament may be scheduled for a Friday night or possibly a Sunday. We normally travel as far west and east as Gothenburg and Grand Island, as far north and south as Ord and Holdrege. Advanced wrestlers may travel to more distant tournaments. Tournament entry fees during the season are the responsibility of each wrestler; these normally run $10 - $20. We strongly encourage the wrestlers to participate in tournaments to give them a chance to put their developing skills into practice. Wrestlers participate in the tournaments they choose to. There is no elimination process for any wrestler. Tournament transportation is normally provided by parents however coaches or other families may be able to provide transportation if parents are not able to do so.
We typically host our tournament at KCHS early March. In addition to giving our wrestlers a hometown opportunity to compete, this event will also serve as a major fundraiser for our program which will provide us with additional means to enhance the wrestling program at Kearney Catholic. We also have other special events throughout the season.
Again, since our mats are still fairly new we are requiring EVERY wrestler to wear wrestling shoes. Headgear is not a requirement but recommended. If your wrestler does not have wrestling shoes for the first couple of weeks we are asking that the wrestler just wear socks on the mat. We do have a box of extra shoes that past wrestlers have donated when they grow out of them. Feel free to dig through if you need to borrow a pair. After the first couple weeks of practice, wrestling shoes will be a requirement. Club singlets will be checked out to each wrestler for use during the season. A $75 replacement fee will be charged for any singlets which are not returned at the end of the season.
Fees for club membership will be $55 for first wrestler and $45 each additional sibling, which includes AAU Wrestling accident insurance and a club T-shirt for each wrestler enrolled in our club.
