MNHL  Rules & Regulations

General League Structure

1. League Format
   • Regular season runs from September through March.
   • Games consist of 3 periods of 12 minutes (stop time).
   • Playoffs:
     • 1st seed vs. 4th seed and 2nd seed vs. 3rd seed in the semi-finals.
     • Semi-final games tied after regulation will go directly to a shootout.
     • Championship Series (best of 3):
       • Overtime Format:
         • 10 minutes 5-on-5 sudden death
         • If still tied → 10 minutes 4-on-4 sudden death
         • If still tied → 10 minutes 3-on-3 sudden death
         • If still tied → Shootout
2. Governing Rules
   • All games follow USA Hockey Ice Hockey Rules, unless otherwise stated in this document.

Gameplay Rules

1. No Checking
   • Body checking is not permitted. Any deliberate check will result in a penalty and possible suspension.
2. Substitutions
   • Teams may only substitute players of equal or lower rating to maintain balance.
   • Substitutions must be approved by the league or team captains before the game.
3. Penalties & Discipline
   • Standard penalties will follow USA Hockey rules.
   • Suspensions:
     • 1st offense = 1 game suspension
     • 2nd offense = 3 game suspension
     • 3rd offense = Removal from league
   • Fighting, abuse of officials, or dangerous play may result in immediate removal regardless of offense count.

Player Conduct

1. Respect
   • Players must show respect to teammates, opponents, officials, and staff at all times.
   • Verbal abuse, unsportsmanlike conduct, or alcohol-related misconduct will not be tolerated.
2. Alcohol Policy
   • This is a beer league but our league will follow any rule or restriction put in place of the arena.
