About the Mill Valley Kids Wrestling Club

We are located at Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, KS.

Our philosophy for our youth club is to teach kids HOW to wrestle. We focus on things that have been proven to make kids successful at the next level. That is what us coaches feel is the most important aspect of youth wrestling. Learning HOW to wrestle. We won't teach a bunch of fancy moves and won't be overly concerned with wins and losses at this level. Of course we all love to see our kids win a match. It's exciting. What I love to see, even more so than our kids winning matches, is the kid opening up his approach. Trying things  he has learned. Wrestling for position. Wrestling tough matches. Improving mental focus and mental toughness. Those are the things that will help to prepare them for the next level. They will all pick up some "moves" along the way but most importantly, they will learn how to wrestle. A kid can wrestle an outstanding match and still lose. It will happen. I am more concerned with how they wrestled than whether they won or lost. If our kids learn how to wrestle, stay aggressive, carry over skills they've learned, work hard, always fight for postition and stay mentally tough, the wins will take care of themselves. Learning how to wrestle is a marathon...not a sprint!

This is a tough sport. Pushes kids more than any sport I have been involved with but it builds character like no other.
