FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. When can I expect to hear something about playing baseball after I submit my profile?
New player profiles will be shared with existing CRHBL Team Managers who have an existing roster need. If existing teams do not have a need or any current openings, the League will attempt to form a new team with the draft pool comprised of prospective league member profiles. If neither of the above options happen, prospective members will be placed in a draft pool for future considerations.
If there is interest in your profile, a team manager will contact you directly for a try-out or add you to their team roster.
Each player is expected to pay associated fees to play if you are added to a team roster.
There is no guarantee that you will be placed on a team if you submit your profile and there is no guaranteed amount of playing time if you are selected by a team to be added to their roster. Playing time expectations can be discussed with your team manager.
We do not add players to rosters after June. If a prospective player posts after June 1st, the profile is maintained in suspense until teams are formed in January for the next season.
The CRHBL does not place players on teams or force team managers to add a prospect to their team roster.
2. What are my chances of playing baseball for the upcoming season?
Your chances of playing for the upcoming season are greatest if you submit your player profile before December for the upcoming season and are willing to manage a team.
Your chances of playing are greatly improved if you are prompt in responding to league officials and team managers who are making an effort to reach out to you.
Teams are formed in January to provide enough time for new teams to collect fees, conduct tryouts, order uniforms/equipment, and arrange team practices.
If a new team is not formed, the chances of playing are diminished as most teams currently in the league are well established and are looking to fill limited roster spots.
3. When does the baseball season start and end?
Regular season games begin around May 1 and conclude by mid September.
The CRHBL post season begins immediately after the regular season, with all games being complete by mid-October.
4. Who conducts practice and where is practice conducted?
Teams set up their own practice schedule. Teams are responsible for finding their own practice locations whether it be indoor or outdoor. A permit must be filed to use a baseball field. Teams are encouraged to establish a relationship with a local HS baseball coach to use their field and offer assistance to the HS coach and baseball teams by working to keep field playable or making a donation of equipment or funds and volunteering to help out where needed.
5. How much does it cost to play in the CRHBL?
The cost to play is different per team. Teams with higher number of players tend to have lower dues. The money covers a team's set of expenses for the year to include field use, umpires, insurance, baseballs, and some equipment. Uniforms are addressed by the Manager of each team. This money must be paid to the team manager before the season starts.
6. How many baseball games are played in a season?
Typically, there are 16-18 regular season games played (depending upon the cooperation of weather) followed by a post season play-off.
7. What days of the week are baseball games played?
Games are usually played each Sunday, there is one game played during the weeknight as well per team, but not on a regular basis; Exceptions are the holiday weekends listed above.
Games are not played on Mother's Day or July 4th.
8. Where are the baseball games played?
Most games are played on baseball diamonds in the Chicago area south suburbs. The fields that we use include Eisenhower HS, Pacetti Field in Oak Lawn, Minas Field in Midlothian, Oak Forest Shooter Field, Veterans Field in Westmont, Gouwens Field in South Holland and Lincolnway North HS in Frankfort.
Directions to these fields can be found by clicking on "Field Directions" in the Main Menu.
9. What equipment do I need to have?
You will have to provide your own glove and personal gear along with a desire to play baseball. The CRHBL allows the use of both rubber and metal spikes. You may want to have your own bat(s). Only Wood bats are allowed
10. What about uniforms?
The teams decide what their team name will be and what style uniforms they prefer. You may be asked to pay for your uniform although team sponsors often help defray the cost. The leagues wear major league style uniforms.
11. How competitive is the league?
There are players at a variety of skill and experience levels. Most players had some high school experience and maybe college. Even some Single A to Triple A players. After a few practice sessions and a few games most players find the game comes back to them and they can compete at their age level!
