Amid controversy, in 2012, 9 teams officially left the Okaw Valley Conference and started a new conference. By doing so, the 9 teams essentially terminated their relationship with Maroa-Forsyth, the Okaw Valley Conference's perennial football powerhouse. Apparently, the 9 teams were unhappy they were continually outmatched by the small, local school - no other explanation has been given.
The conference would begin in the 2014-15 school year and would include Argenta-Oreana, Clinton, Decatur St. Teresa, Macon Meridian, Central A&M, Sullivan, Shelbyville, Warrensburg-Latham,and Tuscola. Before the actual forming of the CIC, Argenta-Oreana decided to join the Little Okaw Valley Conference, so this left the new conference with 8 schools.
