The St. Petersburg Half Century Softball Club began in 1933 when a group of men gathered
at the corner of an old ballpark situated where Al Lang Field is now located. There, the group
of players all pitched in 10 or 15 cents to purchase bats and balls and those men formed what
is now a nationally known organization. Fast forward to 2024 and the Half Century Softball Club
continues playing competitive games three times a week during the season. The Club also plays
less formal practice games throughout the summer months. The St. Petersburg Half Century
Softball Club plays a modified fast pitch style of softball (No Windmill) and requires the use of
non-composite singlewall metal bats. All scheduled games played consist of Nine innings.
Players on the team must be between the ages of 49 to 74 to participate in the Club which is
open to both men and women. The regular season runs October through April with games typically
held at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Anyone interested in
learning more about the Club is encouraged to stop by Northshore Park over the summer during
practice games to see the action in person and meet with players who can answer any questions.
