HC Phillies suffer their first shutout in team history to the Indy Irish by a final score of 7-0 on Sunday, July 10th at Bishop Chatard HS in Indianapolis.
HCP did have a run close to scoring on a WP late in the game but confusion from teammates caused the baserunner to stop and to be tagged out instead of scoring.
Leading the way for HCP were Matt Alspaugh going 2-3 w/ BB, 1B, & 2B, Scott Kessler going 1-4 w/ a 1B, and Jim Goodwin going 1-2 w/ a BB & 1B. Matt Pulley add's a another CG for the Phillies on the mound.
HCP drops to 7-2 on the 2016 IBL Season!!
WEEK 8 (6.19.16) @ Scecina Memorial HS: HC Phillies defeat the Indianapolis Cardinals 23-8.
Kyle Hutton made his first career IBL/MSBL start on the mound for the Phillies as the Cardinals would plate 1R in the top of the 1st. HCP answered back with a 5R 1st inning as Matt Pulley and Jim Goodwin would each come through with RBI 1B's and Jeremy Martin a big 2-RBI 1B leading the way for HCP in the bottom of the 1st. Hutton would pick up back to back K's to keep the Cardinals scoreless in the 2nd. HCP added 3 more R's in the 2nd led by Matt Pulley's 2-RBI 2B. Hutton would finish his outing with a K in the top of the 3rd but HCP would come up empty in the bottom half. HCP led 8-2 after 3.
In the top of the 4th the Cardinals came alive and scored 4-R's mostly on defensive miscues but HCP would get all 4-R's back in the bottom half led by Matt Alspaugh's 2-RBI 1B and Matt Pulley's Sac-Fly RBI to deep RF. The Cardinals would battle right back plating 2 more R's in the top of the 5th to cut the HCP lead to 12-8. HCP would break the game wide open with a huge 11 R 5th inning. Leading the way were, Chris Cole w/ a 2-RBI 2B, Eric Teall and Matt Zenk each with 2-RBI 1B's, Frank Cole w/ an RBI-1B, and Scott Kessler would draw a bases loaded BB as HCP pulls away with a 23-8 lead after 5.
Eric Teall came on in relief in the 5th and would remain in the game pitching a scoreless 6th inning. HCP would not score in the 6th inning as each team tightens up their defense in the 6th. Teall would close the door on the Cardinals by striking out the side in the top of the 7th to clinch the victory for HCP in 7 innings. FINAL SCORE: CARDINALS 8 - HCP 23

WEEK 7 (6.12.16) @ Bishop Chatard HS: HC Phillies defeat the Indianapolis Giants 10-9 on Sunday to improve 6-1 on the 2016 IBL/MSBL season.
HCP came out red hot with 3 straight base hits to start the game vs. the Giants as Matt Alspaugh, Scott Kessler, and Chris Cole would each 1B. Matt Pulley drives one down the 1B line into the corner scoring all 3 Alspaugh, Kessler, and Cole on an 3-RBI 3B by Pulley to put HCP up 3-0 early. Jeremy Martin comes through with an RBI groundout scoring Pulley from third to put HCP up 4-0. Kyle Hutton and Jim Goodwin would hit back to back 1B's as HCP had the bases loaded for the 2nd time in the 1st inning. Frank Cole comes through with a line drive base hit scoring both Martin and Hutton to put HCP up 6-0 on an 2-RBI 1B from Cole. Scott Kessler takes the ball for HCP on the mound and the Giants would fight back plating 4-R's of their own in the bottom frame. In the 2nd, Jim Goodwin hits another line drive base hit scoring Matt Pulley to put HCP up 7-4 on the RBI-1B by Goodwin. Kessler would pitch a scoreless bottom half. HCP stranded 1 runner in the 3rd as the Giants brought across a run in the bottom frame making the score HCP 7 Giants 5 after 3.
Both pitchers and defenese would settle as HCP came up empty in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings while stranding a single runner in the 4th and 5th inning each. After pitching a scoreless 4th, Kessler would allow an unearned R in each the 5th and 6th innings as the Giants come from behind to tie the game up at 7 in the bottom of the 6th innning.
HCP would go down in order in the top of the 7th but Kessler would finish his great outing by answering right back with a 1-2-3 bottom frame to keep the score tied at 7. HCP would make it 6 consecutive scoreless innings after scoring 7 in the first 2 innings after coming up empty in the top of the 8th. Matt Pulley comes on in relief and the Giants bring across 2-R's to take their first lead of the game at 9-7 in the bottom of the 8th. HCP enters the 9th trailing by 2 and puts together a rally. Kyle Hallowell leads of the 9th with a 1B to start the rally. Matt Alspaugh draws a big BB and Scott Kessler comes through with line drive base hit to load the bases in the 9th. With the tieing run in scoring position and go ahead run on 1B, Chris Cole comes through with an RBI 1B scoring Mark Benton pinch running for Hallowell as HCP pulls within a single R with the bases still loaded. With the tieing run 90 feet away, Matt Pulley drives the ball to RF and Matt Alspaugh tags up and beats the throw to home plate to tie the game up at 9. HCP wasn't done just yet as Jeremy Martin comes through with an RBI ground out as Scott Kessler scores the go ahead R. HCP takes a 1-R lead into the bottom of the 9th as Matt Pulley gets the first two batters to ground out to Matt Longfellow at 3B. HCP one out away as Pulley gets the next batter to line out to Chris Cole at 2B as HCP seals the come from behind victory. FINAL SCORE: HCP 10 GIANTS 9 **

Matt Pulley goes 1-3 w/ 3B, 2-R, BB, 4-RBI, & a game tying SAC-FLY in the 9th while going 2.0IP while picking up his 4th W of the season on the mound.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: Chris Cole: 2-5 w/ R & RBI. Jeremy Martin: 2-5 w/ 2B, R, & 2-RBI while driving in the eventual winning R in the 9th. Kyle Hutton 2-5 w/ R. Kyle Hallowell: 2-2 w/ a R. Matt Alspaugh: 1-3 w/ 2-BB & 2-R. Frank Cole had 2-RBI as well.
WEEK 6 (6.5.16) @ New Pal HS: HC Phillies suffer first loss of the 2016 IBL/MSBL season, losing 8-1 to the unbeaten Indianapolis Giants. It was just a 3-1 ball game after 6 but the Giants turned in on in the 7th to break away for good. HCP drops to (5-1) on the 2016 IBL/MSBL season.
May 22, 2016 (WK # 5): HC PHILLIES DEFEAT THE (1-3) INDY RANGERS BY A FINAL SCORE OF 8-6 ON SUNDAY AT NEW PAL HS JUNIOR VARSITY STADIUM!!
HC Phillies enter into their 5th matchup of the season versus the (1-3) Indy Rangers from the New Palestine JV baseball stadium. After picking up 2 quick outs, Matt Pulley would come through with a 2 out 2B scoring Scott Kessler to put HCP up 1-0. Eric Teall follows w/ an RBI 1B scoring Pulley and would then steal 2B. Kyle Hutton continues the 2 out rally w/ an RBI 1B scoring Teall followed by Jim Goodwin's RBI 1B scoring Hutton from 3rd after Hutton steals 2nd and 3rd base. Scott Kessler makes his 2nd start of the season on the mound for HCP w/ a scoreless 1st inning. Kessler then comes through w/ an RBI 2B scoring Matt Alspaugh to increase the lead to 5-0. Kessler continued to cruise with a scoreless 2nd and 3rd inning as HCP leads 5-0 after 3.
HCP came up empty in the top of the 4th and Kyle Hutton comes on in relief for HCP. Despite walking the first two batters, Hutton gets out of the inning w/ just 1R allowed in the inning. HCP gets the R right back on Jim Goodwin's 2nd RBI 1B of the game scoring Kyle Hutton from 3B. Hutton cruises w/ a scoreless 5th inning for HCP on the mound. Matt Longfellow leads off the 6th w/ a 1B and would come around to score on Scott Kessler's Sac-Fly RBI to CF. Chris Cole comes on to make his 2016 pitching debut w/ a scoreless 6th w/ a K. HCP leads 6-1 after 6.
In the top of the 7th inning HCP comes up empty and the Rangers answer by bringing a run across in the bottom of the 7th to cut the HCP lead to 6-2. HCP would plate 2 R's in the top of the 8th but the Rangers would answer back by scoring 4 R's in the bottom of the 8th to make it just a 2 R game at 8-6. Eric Teall would come on in relief w/ 1 out in the 8th and would strike out back to back batters to end the Rangers rally in the 8th. HCP strands a runner in the 9th before Teall strikes out the side and all 5 batters he faced to pick up the 5 out SV for HCP. FINAL SCORE: HCP 8 RANGERS 6.

May 15, 2016 (Week #4): HC PHILLIES DEFEAT THE INDIANAPOLIS PIRATES 5-1 @ NEW PALESTINE HS - NEW PAL (IN).
HC Phillies enter into their 2nd straight challenging contest facing off versus the (2-1) Indianapolis Pirates and returning veteran ace Dustin Brown. HCP jumped on top of the Pirates early as Matt Pulley rips a shot to deep CF for an RBI 2B scoring Matt Alspaugh to put HCP on top 1-0 early. Matt Pulley making his 2nd start of the season on the mound sits the Pirates down in order in the 1st. Kyle Hutton and Jim Goodwin would both reach to lead off the 2nd and Matt Longfellow would come through with a 2-RBI 1B to CF scoring Hutton and Goodwin to put HCP on top 3-0. Pulley sits the Pirates down in order again in the 2nd. Eric Teall comes through with a fly ball to CF allowing Scott Kessler to tag up and score from 3B on the Sac-Fly RBI by Teall. Pulley continued to cruise with a scoreless 3rd as HCP leads the PIrates 4-0 after 3.
Brown and Pulley would both pitch scoreless 4th and 5th innings to keep the score at 4-0 HCP on top. Eric Hare would take over for the Pirates in the 6th and would keep HCP off the board while Pulley continued his great outing keeping the Pirates off the board again in the 6th. Neither team would score in the 2nd frame keeping the score at 4-0 HCP.
In the top of the 7th inning Jim Goodwin would hit a ground ball to SS as the Pirates pick up the out at 2B but an errant throw on the relay to 1B allows Kyle Hutton to score for the 2nd time in the game putting HCP up 5-0. In the bottom half the Pirates would get a runner aboard who would score on a Sac-Fly RBI from 3B as the Pirates get on the board. Matt Pulley finishes his fantastic outing going 7.0IP while allowing 1R, 5H, 1BB, & 9K. HCP would come up empty in the 8th and Eric Teall would come on in relief reliving his professional closer days going for the 6 out non-save opp. Teall would strike out 2 batters in the 8th and after HCP stranded 2 runners in the 9th, Teall would strike out 2 more Pirates in the bottom of the 9th to seal the victory for HCP. Final Score: HCP 5 PIRATES 1.

May 1, 2016: An all out pitchers duel featuring HCP's Scott Kessler vs. Irish SP Adam Wheeler in this week #3 season matchup. Both pitchers came out ready to battle each pitching a scoreless first frame of the game. Scott Kessler receiving some spectacular defense as Ben Stenger and Matt Alspaugh turn a doubleplay turning the Irish away in the 3rd. The Irish would strike first bringing a run across in the top of the 4th but HCP would answer right back w/ Kyle Hallowell and Matt Longfellow coming through w/ an RBI each to put HCP up 2-1. Kessler finished his great start/outing with a scoreless 5th allowing just 1R on 3-K's in 5.0IP. Jeremy Martin would come through w/ an RBI in the bottom of the 5th to put HCP up 3-1. Matt Pulley comes on in relief for HCP pitching a scoreless 6th, 7th, and 8th inning. Jeremy Martin comes through w/ his 2nd RBI of the game in the bottom of the 8th and Matt Pulley finishes off the Irish w/ a big K to seal the victory for HCP. Final Score: Indy Irish 1 HC Phillies 4.

Chris Cole, Matt Pulley, Jeremy Martin, & Kyle Hutton each had RBI 1B and Matt Longfellow a 2-RBI 2B to put HCP up 6-0. Matt Pulley makes his first start on the mound for HCP in 2016 w/ a 1-2-3 1st inning. In the 2nd Matt Pulley would crush a 3-RBI HR over the right center wall to put HCP up 9-0 scoring Ryan Venturi and Chris Cole. Pulley pitched a scoreless/hitless 2nd for HCP w. his 2nd K of the game. HCP would come up empty in the 3rd and Matt Pulley kept his no-hitter going through 3 adding his 3rd K. Kyle Hutton would come through with a 2-RBI 1B scoring Ryan Venturi and Chris Cole to put HCP up 11-0. Matt Pulley continued to cruise w/ another hitless 4th inning. HCP left the bases loaded in the 5th and Matt Pulley finished his outing pitching 5.0 scoreless & hitless innings for HCP. HCP blew the game wide open plating 9 R's in the top of the 6th inning making the score 20-0 HCP. Matt Longfellow and Scott Kessler would finish off the game on the mound as HCP seals the 20-7 victory over the Indianapolis Cardinals in 7 innings.

April 10, 2016 (Opening Day): HC Phillies defeat the Indianapolis Bandits 19-6 on Opening Day 2016 @ Scecina Memorial HS in East Indianapolis. HCP Rookie Matt Alspaugh led off the 2016 season with a BB and would come around to score as Eric Teall reached with a !B and Matt Pulley picked up his first 2 RBI of the season to put HCP up 2-0. 2015 MVP Eric Teall was the Opening Day starter for HCP with a scoreless 1st and 2nd inning w/ 4 K's in Teall's 2016 pitching debut. HCP plated 3-R's in the top of the 3rd and Kyle Hutton came on to pitch a perfect 3rd inning for HCP, leading 5-0 after the first frame. HCP came to life again in the 4th plating 5 more R's to increase their lead to 10-0. 2015 Cy Young finalist Matt Pulley came on to pitch a scoreless 4th and 5th inning in his 2016 pitching debut. HCP plated 3 more R's in the 5th to go up 13-0 after 5. 2015 IBL Batting Champion Chris Cole and Eric Teall would each bring in R's and Matt Pulley would crush a bases clearing 3-RBI 2B into the right center gap for his 7th RBI of the game. HCP led 19-0 and had allowed just 1-H through 6 innings. Jeremy Martin and Matt Longfellow would take the mound in the 7th to seal the Opening Day 2016 victory over the Indianapolis Bandits, 19-6.

HCP GAME 2 RECAP (L, 5-11): Kreigh Hirschy makes his 4th start of the season on the mound for HCP as the Giants jump up 3-0 in the 1st and 5-0 in the 2nd. Matt Pulley would hit a 2-RBI HR in the 3rd scoring Chris Cole and himself to cut the Giants lead to 5-2. Eric Teall came on in relief on the mound in the 2nd keeping the Giants scoreless in the 3rd and 4th. Matt Pulley would hit another 2-RBI HR (2nd HR of the game) over the RF wall into the pond scoring Scott Kessler to pull HCP within a R down 4-5. Giants would plate 2-R's in the 5th to pull ahead 7-4. Scott Kessler would come on in relief in the 6th. HCP down 4-11 picked up an RBI 1B from Matt Pulley in the 7th before the final out. HCP drops to 12-3 on season!!
