2020 SEASON

Sixers Secure Sixth Ship

The Sixers closed out the 2020 regular season 11-7, entering playoffs on a 4-game win streak and carried that momentum all the way through the playoffs going an undefeated 6-0 and sweeping their way to yet another CNEBA championship and a 17-7 final record. The effort was led by an incredible pitching performance by the entire staff yielding 7 runs across all 6 games and a collective 0.67 ERA in the playoffs.

The strangest season ever started off being shortened from a typical 30 game regular season to a truncated 18-game season in half the amount of time. On the first defensive chance of the season, the Sixers lost starting shortstop and long-time leader Connor Gill to a dislocated shoulder injury and after 3-4 weeks, returned to be one of the top contributors on offense hitting .323 on the season while solidfying the defense up the middle at 2B. As the season progressed it was harder and harder to get a regular lineup and rotation to the field due to scheduling conflicts and injuries which led to a 6-7 start, but as players got more healthy and pitchers built up strength, the Sixers went on a tear.

Somehow in a short season, long-time Sixer and 2020 Sixer MVP Quinn Moynihan was able to rack up 30+ hits, an achievement only done a handful of times in full-length seasons. Moynihan finished the year slashing .416/.495/.532 with 18 Rs, 4 2Bs, Hr and led the league with 11 SBs. Fellow long-time sixer Cam Ruziak finished the year slashing .392/.418/.500 and at 29 hits and 22 RBI he was also among the league leaders. The Sixers offense was also powered by several newcomers; Derek Ingui (who had a short stint with the Sixers in 2013) joined the club halfway through the season and was a major part of the Sixer hot streak closing out the season hitting .414 but slugging .897 with 2 2Bs and 4 HRs while playing in half the games. Sixer Rookie of the Year Mike Chaves also contributed in a major way slashing .318/.444/.561 leading the team in XBH with 10 while contributing behind the dish all season long. Chaves led the comeback in game 2 against Littleton going 2-3 with a key solo HR and the eventual go-ahead RBI single in the 6th.

Despite the stellar offensive production, the 2020 Sixers season was headlined by a lights-out pitching staff that led the team to its first sub 3.00 Runs/Game average in 8 years led by CNEBA Pitcher of the Year Joe Latino who, returning for his 10th season, finished the year 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 0.60 WHIP, 32Ks and 3BBs across 25 innings including a Complete Game, 12k Shutout in Game 1 of the championship series. CNEBA Pitcher of the year Runner Up Cam Cossette had a stellar year on the bump going 5-1 with a 1.28 ERA and 36Ks to 9BBs in 27 Innings including also going 2-0 in the postseason. Lastly, veteran right-hander Conor Moynihan came out of retirement to post a 1-0 record with a 1.17 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 29Ks and 6BBs across 24 innings pitched to round out the post-season rotation with impressive stats of his own. In the pen, the story was Sixer Relief Man of the Year David Sampson, also in his first year on the squad who posted a 0.74 ERA, .062 BAA and 26 Ks across 19 relief innings in 10 appearances including going 5-5 in Save chances (3-3 in the postseason).

One of the unsung heroes of the post-season however was Sixer Skinny Award winner James Barry who finished the year batting .300 with 6RBI contributing from both outfield and 1B and was present for every game of the season. In the playoffs, Barry led the team with a .357 batting average carrying a 5-game hitting streak into the final game reaching safely in all 6, not to mention Barry was able to spark several rallies leading off innings with hits as well as several key 2-out RBI base knocks.

All in all the Sixers closed out the season going 17-7 getting contributions from the entire team throughout the playoffs en route to a 6-0 record and the franchises 6th championship under General Manager Adam Trussell. The team looks to return the bulk of the roster next season in hopes of a repeat as CNEBA Champions

CLINTON 76ERS - WEEKLY SUMMARY

2018 SEASON

Sixers Close Out Season Strong

The Sixers closed out the 2018 campaign 19-10-1, going 9-3-1 in its last 13 games, giving up only 1 earned run in its last three starts to cruise to the postseason with the #2 seed and a 1st round bye. Fresh off a 2017 rebuilding year that resulted in a championship, the Sixers brought back the core of the team with several new faces particularly in the rotation.

The core of the offense Connor Gill (Babson), Quinn Moynihan (Assumption) and Cam Ruziak (Plymouth State) all returned and continued to pace the offense finishing near the top of every team hitting category, with Moynihan leading the league with an astounding .477 Batting Average and tied with Gill to lead the league with 32 hits. Gill led the team with 20 RBI and 14 XBH including a team/league leading 3 Homeruns this season. Leadoff hitter Kenan Kolanda turned up the heat in the second half hitting .306 on the season with an OBP of .469, but hit an astound .551 over his last 10 games to pace the Sixers during this hot streak.

Newcomers Matt Bertochi (Central Connecticut State), Mike Fiorelli (Lesley University), and Tanyon Ventres (Becker College) found themselves contributing everyday to the lineup with Bertochi hitting .301 and 19 RBI good for second on the team. Fiorelli hit .288 with a .442 OBP good for 3rd on the squad with Ventres batting .364 while slugging .455 good for 2nd and 3rd on the team respectively.

On the mound the Sixers returned veteran starter Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) and Connor Gill with newcomers Tanyon Ventres, Steve Colella Umass Dartmouth, and Andrew Tache (SNHU) logging the most innings on the mound as well with each of them logging ~35 innings on the regular season.

Ventres paced all starters going 6-0 with a 1.68 ERA and a sub.200 OBA to lead both the team and CNEBA in wins. Latino managed a 3-0 regular season with a 1.63 ERA to lead the Sixers starters with Colella (5-1) 2.06, Tache (3-2) 2.22, and Gill (1-2) 2.25 rounding out the Sixers starters this season. Gill, Tache, and Ventres also logged Saves for the Sixers this season speaking to both their versatility and makeup on the hill.

The Sixers are off until Tuesday/Wednesday where they look to keep rolling with their eye on back to back championships as well as their sixth under head coach Adam Trussell's guidance. #RollSix

2017 SEASON

2017 Sixer Awards

MVP - Connor Gill

Connor did a little bit of everything for the Sixers this year and did it all season long. From assisting in filling out the roster to not missing a single regular season game, Gill was a leader. At the plate he batted .361/.448/.491 in the top 1/3 of the lineup all season leading the league with 32 Runs and slugging 9 XBH while racking up 10 steals on the basepaths. On the mound, Gill went 3-0 with a Save and a miniscule 1.27 ERA to help anchor the staff.

Pitcher of the Year - Joe Latino

Latino made 11 Quality starts for the Sixers this season going 6-3 with a 1.56 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 90 Ks to just 11 BBs. Latino logged 67 innings over the course of the summer and went 3-0 in the postseason picking up a win in each series as well as a CG in the final game of the championship series.

Rookie of the Year - Kenan Kolanda

Kolanda finished his rookie season with the Sixers batting an impressive .398/.491.449 accounting for 30 runs good for 2nd on the team. Kolanda manned multiple positions around the infield and started in 33 of a possible 37 games taking over the leadoff spot in the lineup halfway through the year.

Relief Man of the Year - Matt Cuneo

Cuneo did it all for the Sixers on the mound this season going 5-1 while making 11 appearances, 4 starts, and collecting 2 saves as well. His solid 2.33 ERA  is no reflection of how dominant of a season he had starting the season with 8 straight outings with no earned runs. Cuneo collected 2 Wins in the playoffs off of a CG victory over the Shrewsbury Dirt Dogs in the Semi-Finals and locking down the Game 2 win in relief against Ronnie's in the championship series.

'Skinny' Award - A.J. Papandrea

The Skinny award is always reserved for the player who steps up and plays any position whenever asked and also contributes to the team at the plate, on the field, on the mound or in the dugout in addition to their performance. AJ stepped up playing every position on the field except for Pitcher, Catcher and 1B as well as batting anywhere in the order finishing the year at .261/.284/.315 while coming up with key XBH in the first and second round of playoffs this season.

Playoff MVP - Quinn Moynihan/ Cam Ruziak

With a number of players on both the mound and the plate contributing it was difficult to choose two Co-MVP's nevermind One MVP. In the playoffs, Moynihan hit .533 with 8 hits and scored 7 runs highlighted by his Championship Game 1, two-homer game in which his second went for a walk-off two run blast which shifted the momentum in the series. Ruziak led the team in hits in the playoffs with 11 hitting .478 with a team-leading 8 postseason RBI while slugging .783. In addition, Ruziak held opposing runners in check behind the dish and caught 6 of the 7 postseason games.

SIXERS LOCK UP 8TH STRAIGHT NUMBER 1 SEED

The Clinton 76ers wrapped up the 2016 season at 20-6-3 securing the number 1 overall seed and regular season champion for the 8th straight season. This season it is particularly valuable because the number one team has secured a 1st round bye due to only having 7 teams. The Sixers should be well rested going into their matchup against the lowest remaining team after round one which will be either Blackstone Valley, Shrewsbury, South Central or Worcester.

You can see the bracket above!

Tim Scafidi - Tim slashed .351/.444/.477 over the course of the entire season including playoffs. He pounded out 39 hits good for 2nd on the team and led the team in batting average. His 23 RBI were good for 2nd on the team and his 3 HRs were good for 3rd. He is currently 2nd all time in hits and tied for 1st all time in HRs at 8. Scafidi was also named to the 2014 All Star Team.

Pitcher of the Year
Joe Latino - Joe led the team with a team high 9-2 record and a team high 74 innings pitched, both good for the single season record in a Sixers uniform. His 1.23 ERA was 2nd on the team, his 5:1 K:BB ratio led the team, and he picked up 2 of the 5 wins in the post season and also appeared in half of the team's games. His 22 wins are 2nd all time along with his 163 Ks. Latino was also named to the 2014 All Star Team.

Rookie of the Year
Ysander Figueroa - Ysander came in unannounced this season, showing up to the Sixers first game demanding to play, and he earned it. Figueroa slashed .312/.404/.615 in his first full season smashing a team leading 7 HRs and driving in a record 32 runs. He also stole 9 bases which was good for 3rd on the team. The 7 HRs were good enough to put him 2nd all time in HRs. Figueroa was also named to the 2014 All Star Team.

Relief Man of the Year
Connor Moynihan - Despite being a starter for most of the season, when the Sixers needed it most, Moynihan came up huge in relief, picking up 2 saves in the post season and 3 on the whole season. His 0.76 ERA was good for best on the team and best in the CNEBA for qualified pitchers. His 0.93 WHIP was second on the team. His 8 career wins are good for 7th all time and his 1.07 ERA is good for 3rd all time among qualified starters and best all time for pitchers playing multiple seasons.

Skinny Award
Ysander Figueroa - In addition to his prolific offensive numbers, Figueroa played every single position for the Sixers this season including pitcher and excluding catcher, which is the ultimate quality of the Skinny Award Recipient. Playoff MVP
Chris Creen - Creen had himself quite the postseason banging out a team leading 11 hits while slashing .393/.457/.607. Creen hit for the post-season cycle collecting a double, triple and HR over the course of the 10 games while scoring 5 runs and driving in 4. Clinton Comes up Short in Ship
The Clinton 76ers didn't come to play today as they were torched for 18 runs on Thursday in the opener. The lone bright spot in the loss was a Chris Creen 1st in the 2nd inning. The good news was there was still at least 2 more games to be played.

Clinton bounced back in game 2 behind the arm of #1 Starter Joe Latino who was making his 3rd start and 4th appearance of the postseason. Latino went 6 innings giving up 3 runs (1 ER) on 3 hits and Struck out 8 in an extremely efficient performance that looked to propel the Sixers toward a championship run. Closer Conor Moynihan came on to work a quick 7th striking out 2 to pickup another save in the postseason.

On offense, the Sixers banged out 11 hits en route to scoring 6 runs, with head coach Adam Trussell having quite possibly the biggest hit of the season, being a 2-out 2-strike RBI 2B to put the Sixers ahead 4-3. Skinny award winner Andrew Miskinis, SS Justin Hyland and CF/Leadoff hitter Steve Scannell also each snagged 2 hits in the victory to help pace the Sixer offense.

Game three got a strange start out of fell Hawk Alumni James Farrington, as he worked all 7 innings striking out 13 Dirt Dawgs, but also gave up 7 hits and 6 runs (3 ER) and was saddled with the loss. The deviation was unexplainable as Farrington looked all but unhittable for most of the game, but the Dirt Dawgs were still able to scrape together a handful of runs off him.

The offense was limited to 8 hits and 1 run on the day being a Chris Creen RBI 2B. It was unfortunate to take the loss in such a good start by Farrington, but most everyone in the lineup had a hit that day and it was weird to see such an outcome.

The Sixers gave everything they had on Tuesday night as they played to a 2-2 tie through 6 innings, with the game being called because of darkness only to resume the next day. Clinton starter Conor Moynihan was gifted a 2-0 lead to start the game, but promptly gave it back in the bottom of the 1st, with that being the last of the scoring for the day. Moynihan was effective going 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 in the no decision. Game 2 starter Joe Latino came on in the 6th inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out and struck out both batters he faced to hold the Dirt Dawgs in check at 2-2. Unfortunately, the game was pushed back because of darkness and bringing Latino back again was a bad choice, as he didnt seem to have much in the tank giving up 4 hard hit balls with the last being a 2-out RBI 2B to seal the 2014 season for the Sixers. The offense was held in check as they were only able to muster 3 hits and only scored 2 runs despite 8 free passes and 4 HBPs by the Shrewsbury starter. The loss came in game #42 on the season, which is most in Sixer history.

Staff Carries Clinton to Championship
Framingham 2 @ Clinton 3 (7/25/2014)
Starter Neil Hesek made his first appearance of the 2014 playoffs and was extremely effective going 6 innings giving up 2 runs while striking out 4 to pick up his Career leading 30th CNEBA win with the Sixers. Veteran Jeff Scafidi came on in relief of Hesek to pickup the save.

On offense, the Sixers were paced by leading hitter Tim Scafidi who went 2-3 in the win, while LF Chris Creen slugged the go-ahead run with a HR in the bottom of the 6th to seal the win.

Clinton 3 @ Framingham 4 (10 INN) (7/26/2014)
This was a good old fashioned wood-bat pitchers' duel on Saturday night as the Sixers and A's played to a 1-1 tie until the 10th inning. Starter Joe Latino went 9 innings giving up 1 run (0 ER) on 7 hits while striking out 4 to get the no decision. Despite the requests to go back out for the 10th inning to get the win, Coach Trussel went with starter James Farrington on short rest to try to get the save and the tiredness showed as he relinquished the lead in the bottom of the 10th.

The offense was stymied by the Framingham ace who hit spots and changed speeds effectively. Leadoff man Steve Scannell got the Sixers on the board first by smashing a triple to RF and scoring on the very next pitch, a wild one to the backstop. The Sixers were kept off the board until the 10th inning when Andrew Miskinis got on base and Justin Hyland followed up shortly with an RBI 2B. Tim Scafidi eventually drove him in to take a 3-1 lead, but it was not enough as the Sixers ended up dropping the contest.

Framingham 0 @ Clinton 4  (7/28/2014)
Looking to avenge an earlier loss in the series, starter James Farrington toed the rubber in the deciding game three and was lights out going 6 1/3 innings only giving up 3 hits and striking out 5 to put the Sixers in a great position to win. 2013 Relief man of the year and previous closer Conor Moynihan came on to pick up the save and clinch another berth to the championship for the Sixers.

The offense was held in check until the 6th inning when they rallied for 4 runs led by a Quinn Moynihan 2-out, bases clearing double to put the Sixers on top for good. Ysander Figueroa went 1-2 with a 2B and a run in the victory.

Sixers Come back to Take Series with Westford

Westford 3 @ Clinton 2 (9 INN) (7/20/2014)
Clinton All Star Starter Joe Latino (7-1 1.34 ERA) (Saint Anselm) took a 4-hit shutout into the 7th inning but blew it with 2 outs giving up 4 straight hits to allow Westford to tie the game. After Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) relieved Latino to get out of the jam tied 2-2, the Sixers were stuck in a predicament as they had lost their DH when Scafidi took the mound. Once he left, the Sixers had to navigate the extra frames using all of their relievers and eventually came up short relinquishing the go ahead run in the top of the 9th.

On offense, the Sixers just could not string anything together as the lack-of timely hitting was the theme of this series. Clinton was only able to muster 6 hits through nine innings highlighted by All Star Utility man Ysander Figueroa's (Assumption) solo homerun. All Star 1B Tim Scafidi (Assumption) increased his team leading BA to .370 going 3-4 in the loss.

Clinton 6 @ Westford 4 (7/21/2014)
The first place Sixers turned to league leading ERA man and back to back Sixer Relief Man of the Year Conor Moynihan (4-0 0.22 ERA) (Lipscomb) to try to even the series in Westford. Moynihan worked out of several jams and defensive miscues to give up 4 runs, 2 earned in the complete game victory. Moynihan uncharacteristically walked 7 on the day, but battled out of every inning and retired the last 7 batters he faced as he gained strength as the game went on despite notching 122 pitches in the victory (5-0).

The 76er bats thankfully made the trip to Westford as they banged out 9 hits on the

day. 2013 All Star Shortstop Justin Hyland (Anna Maria) had the key 2B to lead off the 5th inning and scored the eventual go ahead run on an RBI single by All Star C Steve Cammuso (Eastern CT) that was smoked to left center field. Cammuso finished 2-4 in the game with 2 RBI, while Hyland finished 1-3 with 2 runs scored. 2013 All Star Left Fielder Chris Creen (Worcester State) also went 2-4 in the victory collecting an RBI while lining out in his other at bats as he was locked in at the plate.

Westford 0 @ Clinton 1 (10 INN) (7/22/2014)
The Willows and the Sixers played one for the ages on Tuesday night as they played into the night at neutral site Bowditch Field in Framingham to the tune of a 10 inning 1-0 walkoff win for the 1-seed 76ers. Rookie Starter James Farrington (4-1 1.31 ERA) (Saint Anselm) toed the rubber looking to give the Sixers a chance to pull out a victory and did he ever going 7+ innings giving up 0 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7. Similar to Moynihan, Farrington only got stronger as the game went on, striking out the side in the top of the 7th to bring the momentum to the Sixers. Farrington worked out of numerous jams where he stranded runners in scoring position in perhaps his best performance in a Sixer uniform.

Game 1 starter Joe Latino came on in relief on just one days rest to work the final three innings of the game to pick up the victory. Latino avenged his 7th inning implosion on Sunday by working effectively yielding 0 hits in the final 3 frames while striking out 1 to pickup his league leading 8th victory of the season.

The Westford staff went pitch for pitch with the Sixers only giving up 8 hits through 10 innings while they stranded the Sixers in scoring position in 5 separate innings. The Sixers pushed across the final run in the 10th on a controversial walk-off walk to Regan Adhgam (URI). 2013 All-Star CF Steve Scannell (Asssumption) did it all for the 76ers going 2-4 with a BB and a SB while also tracking down a well-struck ball in the gap with 2-outs and runners on first and third in the fourth. SS Justin Hyland proved to be the difference maker again in game
three stroking a leadoff 2B in the 10th to put himself in scoring position and eventually scored on the walk. He finished 2-4 in the game while 3-hitter Ysander Figueroa went 1-2 with 3 walks, 2 of them of the intentional variety.

All in all it was an exceptional series with a number of high intensity, high pressure moments that certainly had the feeling of Championship level baseball. The Sixers hope to carry this newfound momentum into their Semi-final series this weekend against TBD.

Clinton Clinches 1 Seed for Sixth Straight Season
Clinton 4 @ Westford 2 (7/8/2014)
Clinton Starter Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm) took the ball in his third start of the season, good enough to make him playoff-eligible, and worked a quality start for the Sixers going 5 1/3 innings yielding only 1 run on 4 hits and striking out four en route to his first win of the 2014 season. Reliever Ronnie Sampson (Assumption) came on to work the final 1.2 innings striking out 2 to pick up his second save of the season.

On offense, the Sixers pounded out 12 hits with Steve Scannell, Tim Scafidi, Jeff Scafidi and Chris Creen each collecting 2 hits in the win. Creen and SS Justin Hyland each had a double in the victory.

The win marked #200 for Sixer Head Coach Adam Trussell. His thoughts are below in the article written by Bill Marsh.

Clinton 3 @ Lunenburg 3 (7/9/2014)
The Sixers and Phillies played 8 innings of baseball on Wednesday and neither could come

away with a win. The Clinton Staff combined to go 8 innings giving up only 1 earned run while striking out 1. Start Connor Moynihan (Endicott) made his 3rd start of the season and was extremely efficient going 5 innings only giving up 1 run. Jeff Scafidi and Matt Solar (Merrimack) worked the final three innings to maintain the tie.

Westford 0 @ Clinton 3 (7/11/2014)
The Westford Willows didn't really have a chance on Friday evening as they ran into the Hot Pitching Clinton Starter Conor Moynihan (Holy Cross) who threw his second Complete Game Shutout of the season going 7 innings giving up only 4 hits and striking out 5. The Start lowered his league leading ERA to 0.22 and gave him his fourth win of the season (4-0). The offense was relatively quiet on the day, but CF Steve Scannell led the charger going 2-14 with a run scored and 2 steals to push his league leading steal total up to 20. 3-Hitter Jeff Scafidi went 1-2 with an RBI Double in the win.

Clinton 4 @ Framingham 2 (7/12/2014)
Clinton All-Star Starter Joe Latino took what would have been the team's and his second straight Complete Game Shutout into the 7th inning before giving up a couple runs. Latino threw his

6th straight Quality Start for the Sixers going 7 innings while giving up 2 runs on 5 hits to pickup the Complete Game and his league leading 7th win of the season (7-1).

At the plate, the Sixers jumped out to an early lead in the first going up 2-0, but was held relatively quiet from then on as they only collected 3 hits after the first inning. Steve Scannell and Jeff Scafidi led the offense, each collecting a pair of hits in the victory with Scannell scoring 2 runs and Scafidi driving in a run. All Star 1B Tim Scafidi went 1-3 with 2 RBI at the plate to maintain his team leading .368 Batting Average while All Star Backstop Steve Cammuso went 1-3 with a 2B. The win clinched the #1 seed for the Clinton 76ers for the 6th straight season as they push their record to 24-5-1 on the campaign. They close out the season against Ronnie's and Lunenburg. Look for them to compete in both as 2 wins would mark their winningest regular season since Trussell took the reigns.

Sixers are on top of CNEBA

By Bill Marsh ITEM STAFF  (7/11/2014)

WESTFORD — The Clinton '76ers semi-pro baseball team is in the homestretch of another banner season.

On Tuesday, the Sixers edged Westford 4-2 at Peter Arthur Diamond on the campus of Westford Academy in a Central New England Baseball Association (CNEBA) contest.

On Wednesday, Clinton played Lunenburg to a 3-3 tie. The game was called after eight innings due to darkness.

Last Sunday, Clinton split a doubleheader with the Acton Merchants, winning the first game 6-0 and dropping the nightcap 5-2.

With just a week left in the regular season, the league-leading Sixers own a 22-5-1 record.

The CNEBA is a competitive wooden bat league, consisting of nine teams. In addition to Clinton, Westford and Acton, the other members of the league are Lunenburg, Ronnies of Worcester, the Worcester Pirates, Shrewsbury, South Central Express and the Framingham A's.

The majority of the players in the league play on Division 2 and 3 college teams.

The Sixers have four games left in the regular season, with the playoffs scheduled to begin on Friday, July 18.

The victory over Westford marked the 200th win for Clinton manager Adam Trussell, in his eighth year at the helm. The Sixers, who have won three CNEBA championships in the past five years, have thrived under Trussell's leadership.

Trussell, who lives in Lancaster, was a

Nashoba Regional High School baseball standout and played in college at both Northeastern and Southern New Hampshire universities. He also played for the Sixers and for the former Clinton American Legion Post 50 baseball team.

Trussell is thrilled about his team's chances of winning another CNEBA crown.

"I am super excited about this year," Trussell said. "It feels great to win 200 (games) and something I'm very proud of. (Sixers players) Steve Scannell and Andrew Miskinis and I now have 200 wins. Those two have been on the team with me since day one.

"I am so very happy with this team this year," he said. "It is a complete team. We have really jelled this year and they all get along.

"The pitching has come around lately, but the big thing has been the bats," Trussell continued. "I think this is one of our best offensive teams. It has been tough getting everybody in. Everyone can hit, and our on-base percentage is around .400."

The local players on the squad this season are Connor McLaughlin, of Clinton, and Matt Solar, of Sterling.

McLaughlin, a Clinton High School league all-star and Most Valuable Player (MVP), just finished a stellar four-year career pitching for Endicott College. McLaughlin, used entirely in relief, helped pitch the Gulls to their second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference championship.

With an impressive senior year on the mound, McLaughlin holds Endicott's career saves record with 11.

Endicott, which finished second in Division 3 in New England, posted a 34-16 season that ended in the NCAA Regional championship game.

"He (McLaughlin) pitched a lot for Endicott this year," Trussell said. "He's thrown only three games for us so far, but Connor has been consistent for four years.

"We know exactly what we are going to get from him," he said. "He's one of our rotation guys and we use him in long relief. He is always willing to throw and it doesn't matter when."

Solar, a graduate of St. John's High School, pitches for Merrimack College. Solar, a southpaw,

was used in relief by the Warriors.

"Matt (Solar) is our lefty specialist," Trussell said. "He comes in and throws strikes and is great with a new inning. He can shut down other teams lineups."

The Sixers are deep in pitching this season, with many players toeing the rubber. In addition to McLaughlin and Solar, Joe Latino, James Farrington, Conor Moynihan, Josthim Gonzalez and Neil Hesek have done most of the pitching for Clinton.

"We actually have three or four aces this season and not one dedicated ace," Trussell said. "Joe (Latino) is 6-1, and he has done the bulk of the work. James (Farrington) and Conor (Moynihan) have also been lights out.

"We have fantastic pitching, but somebody has been stepping it up every night," he said.

The starting catcher is Steve Cammuso, while Marcus Backlin and Miskinis have also seen time behind the plate.

At first is Tim Scafidi. Quinlan MoynihanYsander Figueroa and Regan Aghdam have all had turns at second base.

The shortstop is Justin Hyland, while Miskinis and Dennis Duplessis have played third.

The Sixers have plenty of speed in the outfield, with Chris Creen in left field and Steve Scannell in center. Jeff Scafidi, Tom Lemons and Brian O'Connor have played right.

Jeff Scafidi, Creen and Figueroa have also pitched this year.

The squad's top hitters are Tim Scafidi, Jeff Scafidi, Scannell, Moynihan, Lemons, Hyland, Figueroa, Creen and Cammuso, who are all batting over .300.

Other members of the 26-player squad are Ronnie Sampson, John Sullivan, Brandon O'Conner, Greg Dwyer and Shamus Landers

"We are stacked this year," Trussell said. "The new trend for us is power hitting. We have 17 home runs already this year and that is more than the last couple seasons put together.

"Many of the guys have been here for years and I'm confident with our lineup," he said. "We have a combination of excellent defense and strong hitting."

The Sixers' assistant manager this season is longtime baseball man Richard Trussell, while Miskinis, Scannell and Latino are assistant player/coaches.

In the victory over Westford, a team that Clinton has defeated three times this season, Hesek hurled 5 innings, allowing two runs, both of which were unearned, on six hits. He struck out four batters.

Sampson closed the game, getting four of the five batters he faced.

With the score tied at 1 after four frames, the Sixers went ahead for good in the top of the fifth inning by scoring two runs. Consecutive singles by Hyland, Jeff Scafidi, Tim Scafidi, Figueroa and Creen brought the two runs in.

Clinton scored an insurance run in the sixth inning on a single by Scannell, a sacrifice bunt by Hyland, a ground out and a wild pitch.

Leading the Sixers' 12-hit attack were Scannell, Jeff Scafidi, Tim Scafidi and Creen, all with two hits each.

On defense, the play of the game was made by Jeff Scafidi in right field, when he took a hit away from Westford's Ryan Thompson. Jeff Scafidi, who has a cannon for an arm, gunned down Thompson at first base on what should have been a base hit.

Also playing strong defense for Clinton were Hesek on the mound, Miskinis behind the plate and Creen in left field.

"I'm always happy to beat Westford," Trussell said. "We have had a rivalry with them over the years.

"This was a real nail-biter, and Neil (Hesek) and Ronnie (Sampson) both threw very well," he said.

Lunenburg 5 @ Clinton 2 (10) (7/27/13)

It took the Phillies 10 innings to upset the defening CNEBA Champion Sixers as the Sixers simply ran out of gas (and players) by the 10th inning of the deciding game 3 of the series. Game one was a difficult game for the top seeded Sixers as they saw themselves granted with plenty of opportunities to score, but simply could not capitalize stranding numerous runners on base. Starter Connor McLaughling worked 5 innings only giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, while striking out 3. Closer Conor Moynihan was hampered with the loss giving up the go ahead run over 2 innings while striking out 3 and walking a pair. On offense, the Sixers were led by team leading hitter Brendan Cutler who went 2-3 with a 2B and scored a run. The Sixers were able to rally in the 7th behind a 2B from Quinn Moynihan and a 1B from Chris Creen, but it was cut short by a fantastic double play turn up the middle to end the game.

Clinton 7 @ Lunenburg 5 (7/25/13)

Game 2 was a completely different story as ace pitcher Neil Hesek toed the rubber and despite getting no luck in terms of bounces, was able to work superbly over 5 innings. Hesek was the victim of 2 infield hits, a booted ball and a 2B that kicked off a sliding left fielder but still managed to hold the Phillies to 2 runs over 5 innings until a 2-out questionable HR down the left field line. Moynihan picked up his 1st save of the 2013 postseason working 1+ innings and only relinquishing one hit. Despite all that, the Sixers still looked like a 1 seed scattering 7 runs on 7 hits. Brendan Cutler had a double and drove in 4 runs in the game while Quinn Moynihan went 2-3. Leadoff man Steve Scannell went 1-1 with 3 BBs an 3 runs to keep constant pressure on the Philly pitching.

Lunenburg 5 @ Clinton 2 (10) (7/27/13)

Game 3 of the 3-game series was everything you could have asked for out of a NDCS (North Division Championship Series) as it saw outstanding pitching, timely hitting and well-played defense, but the Sixers came up just a little bit short in the bout. Starter Andrew Boyce turned in his second straight outstanding start, but was saddled with yet another ND as he worked 7 innings while giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 9. He gave the Sixers every opportunity to win, but they were held in check by the veteran Philly pitcher Swedberg. Matt Solar came in to face two batters and was aided by an outstanding double play turned by 3B Dennis Duplessis on a SAC Bunt attempt. Closer Conor Moynihan was brought in for the 3rd time this series to work 2+ more innings which put him at 7 innings for the week which was good for almost half the innings he pitched all season. The pitch count really took a toll on him as his

command slowed down a bit by the 3rd frame of relief, but still put in a good enough effort to get the Sixer W. At the plate, the Sixers got it going in the first inning when Scannell reached first with a BB and was bunted two second. Creen came up with a huge 2 out 2B to drive him in, but unfortunately had to leave after with a pulled hamstring. The blow was huge losing their 4 hitter and OPS leader. 3-hitter Jeff Scafidiwent 2-3 in the game with an RBI as well, but had to leave the game early leaving the 3-4 spots in the order vacant which did not help the Sixer cause.

All in all the Sixers ended the season 24-12 which was down from past seasons, but still an exceptional year for a team battling injuries all season. Look for the Sixers to bounce back next year as they hope to get healthy and improve wherever they can.

Sixers Sweep in Pair of Shutouts

Keene 0 @ Clinton 4 (7/19/13)

Clinton got all they could ask for out of starters Neil Hesek and Joe Latino this weekend who combined to work 13 innings giving up 0 runs on 9 hits and 11 Ks. Hesek fired a complete game shutout on Friday night only using 88 pitches to seal the game giving up only 6 hits and striking out 6. The win moved Hesek's all-time leading Sixer win total to 27. On offense the Sixers were held scoreless until the fourth when Greg Dwyeropened the game up with a 3-Run homer. Third Baseman Dennis Duplessis went 2-3 with a 2B and a stolen base in the win, while DH Chris Creen went 1-2 with 2 runs and a stolen base as well.

Clinton 8 @ Keene 0 (7/20/13)

It was the first game in 7 years that Center Fielder and Leadoff man Steve Scannell did not start due to a sore hamstring, so the Clinton 76ers looked for a spark elsewhere. Starter Joe Latino toed the rubber in game two of the series on Saturday and worked 6 efficient innings giving up no runs on 3 hits and 5 Ks to pickup his 13th career Sixer win which is good for 2nd on the active roster and 3rd all time. Closer Conor Moynihan came on to work a quick 1-2-3 7th to seal the game. Sixer Shortstop Justin Hyland had himself a ballgame making exceptional

defensive plays all game while leading hte charge on offense going 2-3 with a 3B and 3 RBI. Hyland gave the Sixers the first cushion of the game with a 2-out 2-run single in the 5th. Creen went 1-3 at the plate blasting his 5th HR of the season to deep right center field in the 2nd inning. His 5 HRs this season are the most ever in a season for a Clinton 76er while it also moves him into a tie with Tim Scafidi for most HRs all time. Center Fielder Jeff Scafidi and brother 1B Tim Scafidi  each went 2-4 with a 2B and picked up 2 and 1 RBI respectively. Dennis Duplessis also had 2 hits and a SB in the win as well.

After dropping three in a row from Friday-Sunday to give the Sixers their first double digit losing season in 4 years, the Clinton bats woke up in the third game of a triple-header sunday. Hyland went 2-3 also swatting a double in the game while Scannell and Tim Scafidi also launched doubles in the contest.

Chelmsford 1 @ Clinton 2 (7/16/13)

Starter Andrew Boyce was stellar, working 7 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 9. Moynihan came on to pickup the win in relief working the final two innings. Steve Scannell provided most of the offense going 2-4 with 2 SBs to put finish him at 19 swipes on the season. The win ensured that the 76ers will have home-field throughout the North-Division playoffs.

Clinton 6 @ Metro West 3 (7/7/13)

Clinton 1 @ Metro West 6 (7/7/13)

After dropping a 4-2 game to Ronnie's on Tuesday, the 76ers looked at a 13-7 record going into the weekend. This marked the first time the Sixers had been swept by a single team over the course of a season during the Adam Trussell era. 1-1 Neil Hesek took his sub-2 era to the mound in game one working 6 effective innings only giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, while striking out 6 in his best outing of the season. Closer Conor Moynihannotched only his 4th save of the season but remains perfect in save situations in a Sixer uniform improving to 21-21 over the course of his 3 seasons. Chris Creen, Andrew Miskinis, and Dennis Duplessis each had 2 hits in the bout. Steve Scannell also notched 2 stolen bases in the game.
Starter Joe Latino took the ball in game two making his first start since an opening day injury. It wasn't one to remember as the 3rd year starter was tagged for 9 hits and 6 runs over 3+ innings of work. Sophomore reliever Matt Solar showed his versatility again as he came on in relief to work 2+ scoreless innings to collect his 3rd win of the season. Moynihan worked a 1-2-3 7th striking out 2 to end the game. The Clinton offense saw a flurry of hits racking up 15 in the game with Tim Scafidi leading the way with 2 hits including his first Home Run on the season a towering shot to right field in the first. Shortstop Justin Hyland went a perfect 3-3 in the game while Scannell, Creen and Quinn Moynihan each drove in two runs in the victory.
CLI: 15-7

Worcester 1 @ Clinton 12 (7/8/13)

The Clinton pitchers joined the parade with Latino, Shamus Landers, and Conor Moynihan all receiving Plate Appearances with no hits to show for them.

Clinton Starter Connor McLaughlin put in an outstanding start going 5 innings giving up one run and striking out 9 to improve to 3-2 on the season. Rookie Brian O'Connor was spectacular in his Sixer pitching debut slamming the door in the final 2 innings giving up no hits while striking out 2.

CLI: 16-7

Clinton 5 @ South Central 1 (7/9/13)

Jeff Scafidi and Chris Creen went back to back in the top of the first inning respectively blasting a 3-R HR and a Solo shot to give Clinton all the offense it needed to pickup its 4th win in 3 days. Creen wen 4-4 in the ball game moving his hitting streak and multi-hit game streak to 4. Inconsistent Clinton

Clinton 5 @ Ronnie's 6 (6/21/13)

The struggling Sixers saw their inconsitent play continue as they uncharacteristically dropped their 5th game before the midway point in the season to cross-division rival Ronnie's. Clinton got a lot of support on offense including a 2 RBI 3B from DH Tim Scafidi (Assumption) to take the

lead in the 5th, but it was quickly erased by a 2-R HR to put Ronnie's back on top 6-5. Worcester did not look back from there picking up their second win in as many tries against Clinton.

11-5

Lunenburgh 2 @ Clinton 1 (6/27/13)

Clinton's woes continued as they dropped a 2-1 game to Lunenburgh in yet another embarassing fashion. Clinton starter Justin Hyland (Anna Maria) spun a gem working 7 innings giving up only one earned run, but was handed the loss as the Sixers were no-hit through the first 6 innings of the game. It took until the top of the 7th for Clinton to get any offense going as Dennis Duplessis(Worcester State) led off the 7th with their first hit and eventually scored, but it was too little too late as a 1-2-3 double play ended the Sixers chances as they were threatening with the bases loaded and 1 out. The loss dropped them out of first place in the North Division for the first time all season.

CLI: 11-6

Shrewsbury 2 @ Clinton 3 (6/28/13)

The 76ers looked to avoid their second 3 game losing streak of the season on Friday as they hosted the South Division second place Dirt Dawgs of Shrewsbury. Clinton Starter Connor McLaughlin (Endicott) worked effectively going 4.2 innings while striking out 4 and letting up 2 runs, but the bullpen saved the day with Matt Solar (Merrimack) and Conor Moynihan (Holy Cross) combining to work 3.1 innings into extra frams to pickup the relief win. The win was Moynihan's second on the season moving him to 2-0 while he worked 1.1 innings and only allowed one baserunner. On offense Catcher Brendan Cutler (Fitchburgh State) drove in the game-winning walkoff RBI in the bottom of the 8th to seal the victory on a day where the Sixers only mustered 5 hits.

CLI: 12-6

Chelmsford 2 @ Clinton 8 (6/29/13)

The 76ers collected their second win in a row on Satruday over the 1st place at the time Chelmsford Merchants. The Sixers pounded out 17 hits en route to a relatively docile 8-2 win. Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) and Hyland each collected 3 hits in the victory, while Andrew Miskinis(Stonehill) Drove in 3 runs and stole 2 bases. Starter Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm) worked 5 strong innings giving up only one run to pickup his first win of the year (1-1). Opening Day starter Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) cleaned up the 7th with a 1-2-3 inning with a K in his first appearance since hurting his arm 6 weeks ago. It marked the first time in Sixer history that the two long tenured Sixer aces and college teammates pitched in the same game.

Scannell Collects 200th Hit to Halt Sixer Skid

South Central 5 @ Clinton 4 (6/14/13)

The Clinton 76ers found themselves in unfamiliar territory on Friday as they dropped two in a row on the season losing 5-4 in embarassing fashion to the South Central Express. The Clinton bats were kept dormant outside of a 6th inning Grand Slame from DH Derek Ingui (Franklin Pierce). It was too little too late as the Sixers dropped the game.

CLI: 9-3

Ronnie's 8 @ Clinton 3 (6/16/13)

This was the first matchup of the season between the 2012 CNEBA Champion Sixers and the Runner-up Ronnie's from Worcester, but it did not quite live up to the billing as the Sixers dropped the first game of the doubleheader 8-3 at home. Chris Creen (Worcester State) did go 3-4 with a 2B and an RBI in the Loss. The loss was the Sixers' third straight, which hasn't happened to the squad since the 2008 season.

CLI: 9-4

Lunenburgh 1 @ Clinton 9 (6/16/13)

The Sixers rebounded in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday. It was their first matchup of the season against the longtime rival Phillies of Lunenburgh. The bats came alive as they pounded out 10 hits and scored 9 runs to move into double digits in the win column. Chris Creen, Derek Ingui, and Tim Scafidi (Assumption) each collected 2 hits on the day while Steve Scannell (Assumption) went 1-2 and drove in 2 runs while collecting his 200th career hit in a Sixer uniform. The two-time Sixer MVP is the first to accomplish such a feat. Starter Justin Hyland (Anna Maria) Picked up his 3rd straight win to start the season working 6 efficient innings giving up only 5 hits while striking out 2. Rookie Shamus Landers(Thomas College) worked a 1-2-3 7th inning striking out 1.

CLI: 10-4

South Central 0 @ Clinton 2 (6/20/13)

Clinton got an outstanding spot start from Chris Creen who was making is appearance on short notice and still looked relatively unhittable going 6 innings striking out 10 and only relinquishing 2 hits in the Sixers much-needed second straight win of the week. Closer Conor Moynihan (Holy Cross) came on in the 7th to notch his 3rd Save of the season walking one and striking out another. The offense collected 8 hits on the day, but struggled to push the runs across scoring only 2 in the bout. Catcher Brendan Cutler (Fitchburgh State) went 2-3 in the win to move his team-leading batting average to an astouding .545. Right Fielder Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) also went 2-3 and improved his team leading RBI total to 12.

CLI: 11-4

Clinton Comes from Behind

Metro West 3 @ Clinton 4 (6/613)

The Clinton offense was held scoreless until the 7th inning when they had an unorthodox 4 inning rally to beat Metro West at home with two outs. Clinton starter Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm) returned to action and turned out a quality start going 5 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out four but was left in line for the loss before the Sixers battled back to win in walkoff fashion. The rally started when Utility man Andrew Miskinis (Stonehill) led off the inning reaching first on a dropped third strike. Two outs later after a pinch hit single for Brendan Cutler (Fitchburg State), Clinton got back to back singles from leadoff hitter Steve Scannell (Assumption) and Quinn Moynihan (Holy Cross) to cut the lead to 3-2. After an error extended the inning and tied it up, cleanup hitter Chris Creen (Worcester State) Clubbed an RBI single to give the Sixers the walkoff win. Sophomore Matt Solar (Merrimack) worked 2 innings and gave up 0 earned runs to pickup his second win of the season in relief while maintaining a perfecft 0 ERA.
CLI: 8-1
Clinton 8 @ Chelmsford 5 (6/9/13)

Clinton 1 @ Chelmsford 6

With Chelmsford traveling to Clinton to play a doubleheader as the home team on Sunday, the Sixers looked to use that home-field familiarity to their advantage. Clinton sent starter Connor McLaughlin (Endicott) to the hill to make his third start of the season. McLaughlin was extremely effective going 5 innings giving up no runs and striking out 3 to improve to 2-1 on the season. Rookie reliever Shamus Landers (Bridgedton Academy) worked the final 2 innings giving up 1 earned run and striking out 1. On offense Clinton got the bulk of their production from Creen and Cutler who each doubled and combined to drive in 5 runs and score 2.
CLI: 9-1
Game 2 was more frustrating as the Clinton offense was held to only 1 run which is now their lowest scoring game of the season. Starter Andrew Boyce (Holy Cross) made his second start for the Sixers and was an unlucky one as unfortunately too many routinely hit balls found holes. Boyce was still effective going 5 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs in the loss. On offense no one seemed to really get it going except for Moynihan and Creen each going 2-4 in the loss. Clinton falls to 9-2 and looks to rebound with a 5 game home-stand this week.

With Clinton Aces Neil Hesek and Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) both battling injuries, the Sixers have had to play musical chairs with their rotation, bringing in rookies, relievers, and guys on short rest to fill the innings void. With that said, the Sixers traveled up to Keene riding a 5-game winning streak only to be stopped short by a late Blue Jay rally. The only healthy returning starter from the 2012 Championship run Connor McLaughlin (Endicott) made his second start of the season in the first game albeit on short rest. McLaughlin worked until the 5th only giving up 2 unearned runs before yielding a solo shot to lead off the 5th. He then ran into trouble in the 6th giving Keene the lead for good. On offense Chris Creen (Worcester State) hit his 2nd HR in as many games while Brendan Cutler (Framingham State) had 2 Doubles and an RBI, but it was too little too late as the Sixers dropped game one.

The primary reliever converted to a starter went 7.0 Innings giving up 6 hits while striking out and walking 4. The Sixers got production from all over their lineup with Creen, Justin Hyland (Anna Maria), Kurt Sabacinski (Worcester State) and Brian O'Connor (Worcester State) each contributing doubles on offense. Greg Dwyer also went 2-3 with 2 RBI in the win.

Sixers Win in Wild Walkoff
Keene 5 @ Clinton 9

Keene 7 @ Clinton 8

It was a wild day at Clinton High School as the 76ers saw a couple of 5+ run innings propel them to a 3-0 start in the CNEBA. Clinton local Connor McLaughlin (Endicott) took the ball in game one working 5 Innings scattering 5 hits and allowing 1 Earned run in his first start of the summer. He also struck out 4 batters while walking none. Rookie relief pitcher Brett Pettis (Worcester State) came on and worked a steady 6th and 7th in his first career 76er outing giving up only 1 hit and striking out a batter. Veteran Captain Centerfielder, 2012 and 2011 76er MVP and leadoff hitter Steve Scannell (Assumption) paced the offense in game one going 4-4 with 3 2Bs, 3 Rs, and an RBI. The Sixers also picked up doubles from Chris Creen (Worcester State), Tim Scafidi (Assumption), Kurt Sabacinski (Worcester State), and Dennis Duplessis (Worcester State).

Game two was much sloppier as the Sixers allowed 6 unearned runs en route to a bottom 7 wild-pitch walkoff. The Clinton 76er all-time winningest pitcher as well as 2012 Sixer Pitcher of the year Playoff MVP Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm) toed the rubber in game 2 of the doubleheader against the Blue Jays. In his first start in 9 months, Hesek pitched ably going 4 Innings while striking out 3 and givine up 0 earned runs. Matt Solar (Merrimack) took over in the 5th working two hitless innings and striking out 3. Closer Conor Moynihan (Holy Cross) came in in the 7th with a 5 run lead, but was let down by his defense giving up 5 runs (1 Earned) while only allowing one hit and striking out one. Moynihan did manage to pickup the win as the Sixers went on to win the game in the bottom of the inning. Steve Scannell and Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) each went 2-4 on offense providing a bulk of the offense. The highlight of the game came with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th when Sophomore Greg Dwyer (Bentley) scored from 2nd base on a wild pitch that went awry and was lost in the grass. Even with that it was a close call and a bang-bang play at the plate that gave the Sixers an 8-7 Victory.

The Sixers were led by their pitching staff who held the Willows to 6 hits and 0 runs while striking out 12 times. 3rd year returning starter Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) made his second opening day start in a Sixer uniform, and his first appearance on a mound since the Sixers' 2012 Championship series in August. The Clinton 76ers won the 3rd game of the best of five CNEBA Championship series over the Worcester Ronnie's on their way to a perfect 7-0 in the post season. Sixers Starting Pitchers went 6-0 with 4 Combined Shutouts, and a .36 ERA over 38 2/3 innings pitched. Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm) went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 19 Ks over 17 Postseason innings. Sixers Remain Perfect in Playoffs, Take 1-0 Lead (8/2/12)

Clinton 7, vs. Ronnie's 1

The Sixers take the important first game of the five-game CNEBA Championship series in a grinding 7-1 win. Despite the wide margin of victory, the Sixers held onto a 1 run lead through 6 innings until they pushed across 5 runs in the 7th to take control of the game. Starters Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) for Clinton and Zach Rafferty for Ronnie's combined to only give up 3 through the first 6 innings of what looked to finish as a pitchers' duel. Latino worked out of several jams as he stranded runners in scoring position in 3 of his 6 innings to improve to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the postseason. Latino's final line: 6 IP, 1 R, 8Hs, 5Ks 1BB. Matt Solar (Merrimack) came on in the 7th to work a 1-2-3 inning picking up a K to end the game.

Walks were the difference in the game as Clinton worked for 8 free passes as well as a gift HBP. They also pounded out 6 hits, 3 of which went for extra bases. Justin Hyland (Anna Maria), Tim Scafidi (Assumption) and Steve Cammuso (Eastern Connecticut State) each belted a double in the win while Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) went 0-0 with 2 BBs and 2 Sac Flys. On offense, the bats were kept quiet again as they faced Metro West ace Dave Wasylak. He worked 6 innings and only gave up 3 hits but the Sixers were able to string something together in the 2nd inning when James Skagerlind (Bryant) led off with a single through the right side followed later by a 1 out walk by Chris Creen (Worcester State) to make it 1st and 2nd. Kurt Sabacinski (Worcester State) was the hero again driving in the games only run with a single down the right field line. The win marks number 151 for Head Coach Adam Trussell (SNHU). Clinton Takes Game 1 (7/27/12)

Clinton 1, Metro West 0

Neither Metro West or Clinton could push across a run for the first 6 innings of the game with both sides locked in a 0-0 tie despite each having a runner at third base with only one out earlier in the game. Eventually Chris Creen (Worcester State) led off the top of the 7th with his league leading 7th Triple of the season and his second hit of the game. Eventually he would score the games only run on an RBI single by Kurt Sabacinski (Worcester State) who notched his second hit of the ballgame as well. Only Andrew Miskinis (Stonehill) and Steve Scannell (Assumption) were able to muster hits off southpaw Joe Metcalfe (Metro West) in the game as he mixed in a good amount of offspeed.

Clinton Starter Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) went the distance going 7 innings giving up only 1 hit in the 6th inning and striking out 7. With the win he has improved to a league leading 6-0 and has lowered his ERA to .80 on the season. He also collected his 3rd Complete Game Shutout as well. Sixers Sweep Chelmsford (7/24/12)

Chelmsford 5, vs. Clinton 13

The Clinton offense had four consecutive batters with 3 hit days in the middle of the order tonight as the 76ers pulled away late in the second game of the three game series. With Chelmsford playing as the home team, the Sixers watched the Merchants battle back in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but the offense exploded for 9 runs over the last three innings to put away the 8th seed Merchants. Starter Eric Johnson (WPI) had to overcome several defensive blunders in the first couple innings which caused his pitch count to climb and gave him an early exit in the third inning. He only gave up 2 hits and 3 runs, 1 earned over 2 1/3. Starter Connor McLaughlin (Endicott) made his first relief appearance of the year going 3 2/3 innings only giving up 2 runs and striking out 5 to earn his 3rd win of the season. Rookie of the year Matt Solar (Merrimack) worked a barely visible and scoreless 7th to finish out the game and give the Sixers the clinching win.

On offense, the runs came in bunches as the Sixers scored in 5 different innings. Left Fielder Chris Creen (Worcester State) led the way going 3-4 with a 2B, 3B and 5 RBI. He also added a SAC Bunt to his credit. First Baseman Tim Scafidi (Assumption) also provided a bulk of the offense going 3-5 with 5 RBI as well. RF Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) went 3-4 with 4 runs and DH James Skagerlind (Bryant) went 3-4 with an RBI 2B. The Sixer offense is coming together at the right time and look to stay hot as they anticipate returning to play on Friday against the lowest remaining seed in the playoffs. They will send Starter Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) to the bump in game 1 with the rest of the rotation being up in the air.

Clinton takes Game 1 (7/23/12)

Chelmsford 3, vs. Clinton 5

The Clinton 76ers have entered the playoffs as the 1 seed for the fourth season in a row. In it they are facing last years defending champion Chelmsford Merchants who successfully knocked out the Sixers last year on their way to the 2011 CNEBA Championship. Clinton decided they did not want a repeat sending their ace Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm) to the hill who worked effectively going 5 innings giving up no runs on 5 hits and striking out 6 on his way to his 5th victory of the season tying him with teammate Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) for most on the staff. After a rocky 6th inning where Chelmsford clawed their way back in to make it 5-3, Closer Conor Moynihan (Holy Cross) worked another scoreless 7th to notch his league leading 11th save of the season.

On offense, the Sixers were consistent plating a run in 4 of their 6 offensive innings. They jumped on the board early scoring 2 runs with 2 outs and did not look back from there. 3-hitter Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) led the charge going 3-4 with a 2B, R, and an RBI. Leadoff hitter Steve Scannell (Assumption) and Catcher Steve Cammuso (Eastern Connecticut State) also contributed 2 hits apiece in the win. The win inches the Sixers one game closer to their goal. Lefty Eric Johnson (3-2) will be on the bump tomorrow as the Merchants return to Clinton for game 2.

Regular Season Awards (7/23/12)

The first annual Regular Season Sixer Awards are being announced today on the eve of the playoff tournament. Although this is the first time they are being announced, we are going to retroactively add the past seasons award winners to the awards tab, so please check back in the near future to see past winners. Now onto the hardware presentation.

SIXERS MVP - Steve Scannell (Assumption)

Steve was the most dedicated and reliable player on the team for us and has been that way for a number of years. Scannell was the only player to start all 31 games at a number of different positions but primarily in Center Field. Scannell led off the lineup in ever game providing us with the spark we needed at the top of the order by not only batting .371 on the year but also posting an OBP of .524 with 27BBs to go along with 33 Hs. He also stole 27 bases which proved essential to the team's run production. By putting himself in scoring position he eventually scored 31 times which was almost 25% of all of the Sixer runs scored this season. He led the league  in SBs, BBs, Runs, and was in the top of the league in BA and ABs. He was also the senior leader on this team even coaching it for a week. Look for Scannell to be the catalyst of the Sixer offense as they are poised to make a playoff run for their third championship

SIXERS Pitcher of the Year - Neil Hesek (Saint Anselm)

Neil was the ace of a staff that posted a league leading 1.39 ERA and a team that won 23 games. On the mound Neil never yielded more than 1 ER and made four starts where he did not even allow a run. He concluded the year as one of only 4 undefeated starting pitchers who pitched at least 15 innings by going 4-0. He also led the league in ERA with a .38. His 8.17 K/7 was best in the league among starters. He also posted an astounding 4.67 K/BB ratio and held batters to a .154 BAA. He looks to lead the SIxers in their charge for a championship by starting game 1 tonight at home against the Chelmsford Merchants.

SIXERS Rookie of the Year - Matt Solar (Merrimack)

Sixer rookie Matt Solar putt together one of the better seasons for a rookie on this team. His 1.16 ERA speaks for itself as it helped to lower the team's league leading 1.39 ERA. He also scraped together a 3-0 record in relief appearances which speaks volumes as to how well he came in and gave the team a chance to come back. Solar finished out the season making 6 straight scoreless appearances picking up 3 wins and 2 saves. He also held batters to a .156 BAA and .89 WHIP which are both top 5 on the staff. Look for big things out of this Sixer in the future.

SIXERS Relief Man of the Year - Conor Moynihan (Holy Cross)

Moynihan was the most important part of the Sixer pitching staff anchoring the bullpen for the games in which starters did not go the distance. With the Sixers staff only combining for 6 CGs this season which is down from the past, the Sixers looked to Moynihan to close out their wins. Moynihan was 10-10 in Save Opportunities only giving up 1 Run on the season. He finished all 14 games he appeared in, solidifying 11 of them as wins. Moynihan held batters to a .068 BAA and maintained an impressive .59 WHIP.

SIXERS 10th Man Award - Andrew Miskinis (Stonehill)

Althought Miskinis did start most of the games he played in, he did not exactly have a starting position on the field making starts at 5 different positions during the year including C, 3B, 2B, SS, and OF and therefore it was fitting that he earn this award. Miskinis was the unsung hero of the offense taking on any role the team needed and providing the offensive spark in more than one way whether that meant a pinch hit go ahead RBI, or an important Sacrifice bunt to get runners in scoring position. Miskinis finished the year with a .321 Batting Average good for 5th on the team. He was also top 5 on the team in 2Bs, RBI, and Runs scored making him a versatile weapon on the team who also batted in 5 different places in the batting order.

Dirt Dogs One Up Sixers (7/17/12)

Clinton 5, vs. Shrewsbury 6 (7/17/12)

For only the second time all season, the Sixers had starters go back to back games without recording a Quality Start. Starter Eric Johnson (WPI) gave up 8 hits in 5 innings, giving up 6 runs but only 4 earned. He did manage to strike out 10 Shrewsbury batters in the loss. The Sixers could not get anything going putting runners on in the 2nd 3rd and 4th innings but hitting into 2 inning ending double plays along the way. The Sixer offense finally showed some life in the 6th inning after loading the bases for Chris Creen (Worcester State) who hit a bases clearing 3B to cut the Dirt Dog lead in half. Designated hitter Tim Scafidi (Assumption) went 2-2 in the loss while Andrew Miskinis (Stonehill) came off the bench to go 2-2 with an RBI to put his average up over the .300 mark. Leading hitter Steve Cammuso (Eastern Connecticut State) also contributed a hard hit RBI double in the 7th inning to try to stage a comeback. But it was too little too late as the Sixers were only able to scrape together 5 runs in the last two innings falling to Shrewsbury by a final score of 5-6.

Steve Scannell (Assumption) and Jeff Scafidi (Anna Maria) each notched three hits while driving in 3 and 4 runs respectively. Unfortunately Chris Creen (Worcester State) snapped his 8-game hit streak in the win, but he threw a runner out at third base from his knees in left field to slow down a potential Ronnie's rally.

Shrewsbury 0, vs. Clinton 2 (6/29/12)

Sixers Back on Track 6/15/12

After a rough beginning to the week dropping one to lunenburg and committing 4 errors, the

Sixers rallied to defeat defending champion Chelmsford behind a 4-0 complete game 1 hit shutout by Pitcher Nick Bonofiglio (Worcester State). Rookie Catcher Jack Reilly (St. Joe's Maine) notched his first hit and looks to stay hot on the season. On Friday, they took on current first place Shrewsbury Dirt Dogs in an Ex-Wachusett Pitchers matchup featuring Joe Latino (Saint Anselm) on the mound for Clinton and Steve Cadoret (Boston College) for Shrewsbury. Clinton came out on top 5-1 improving their record to 8-4, which is good enough for the top spot in the league.

Chris Creen (Worcester State) also notched his 3rd straight game with a double and an RBI, while Steve Scannell (Assumption) brought his average closer to .400.

Sixers Split 1st Doubleheader

After an inconsistent week out of the perennial powerhouse 76ers, Clinton looked to take two today from the Metro West A's in order to regain the top spot in the league. After a relatively easy 5-0 win, they lost a tough match by a final score of 1-0 which left them in 2nd place in the league to a resurgent Shrewsbury Dirt Dogs roster. Look for a big week out of the sixers who host the Lunenburg Phillies on Monday, followed by a contest at Chelmsford on wednesday and then host the Dirt Dogs on Friday for a potential matchup at the top two teams in the league.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Sixers Start Out Hot

The Clinton 76ers are off to a hot start winning their first 3 games. Led by Captain Steve Scannell who was impossible to retire in the team's first two games reaching base safely in every at bat. The starting pitching for the sixers has also been steady with SPs Eric Johnson, Joe Latino, and Connor McLaughlin picking up wins in their first three games respectively.

The sixers look to stay hot with a big 4 game homestand to close out the week.
