Suggested Dinner Process for Away Games:
1. Dinner Sign Ups - Team Parents will contact Team Families with specific sign-up how-tos.
2. Dinner Menu -
Typical food (please pack all perishables in coolers with ice
- ice chest maximum dimensions 19 x 29 x 56)
- sandwich makings -
- turkey, ham, cheese (at least 1 pound of each)
- rolls or bread (at least 2 loaves)
- peanut butter, etc.
- condiments
- pasta salad
- fruit (bananas do not travel well) or fruit salad
- healthy snacks (although cookies have been known to be included - and cupcakes on birthdays)
- Gatorade-like drinks
- bottled water
Typical non-food items:
- plasticware
- paper bowls or plates
- napkins or paper towels
Lessons Learned:
- Always include more than the number of girls + coach of the essential items. More is always better than not enough.
- If rolls are included for the sandwiches, please slice them. Knives can be a problem at schools.
- Popsicles do not travel well.
- Even double wrapping ice in zip lock baggies will not render them leak proof.
- No matter how many flavors of Gatorade-esque beverages are packed, there will not be enough of some one's favorite flavor.
3. Delivery Process
Food is to be delivered to the bus prior to the team leaving for the away game.
Delivering food to a bus with varying departure times can be challenging. The girls are typically provided the departure time, but only one or two days before departure.
In the past, two other methods have been employed:
1. Deliver food or drinks at the start of school to the front office. Please clearly mark all coolers and/or bags with BHS (team name). The girls are responsible for transporting the food or drinks from the office to the bus. Please remind your daughter to pick up the food or drinks in the office prior to boarding the bus.
2. Teams have identified one or two parents as "food deliverers" - food is delivered to their house and then those food deliverers take it to the bus. This is especially helpful for working parents.
4. Cooler Retrieval Process
If you travel to the away game, coolers may be picked up there - although the girls will probably want to grab the last few drinks and any remaining food on their way to the bus - so please do not remove them until after the girls are on the bus.
