Jon Schwind

Legends are cast by those individuals who truly make a lasting mark on the activity or event that they are involved in.  In the 2013, the Hilton Cadets Ice Hockey Program established the Legends of Hilton Hockey to honor those individuals that had given so much to the program during their tenure as players or coaches and after their tenure, by continuing to have a positive impact on the Hilton Cadets Ice Hockey Program.  The four inaugural members included all former coaches of the program; Tom Dowd, Bruce Klingler, Frank Golisano, and John Farnham.  The second class induction included former player Robby Coppaway and his family.  This year, the Hilton Cadets Ice Hockey Program is honored to induct 2008 graduate Jon Schwind into the Legends of Hilton Hockey.

Jon Schwind was a four-year Varsity player for the Cadets, and was named Team Captain in his senior season.  His work ethic, character, and leadership were all qualities that enabled such a positive impact on the entire Hilton Hockey program.  Jon was selected as Divisional Player of the Year that season, and was a First team All-County selection.  Jon was also Team Captain and of the Section V Champion Varsity Baseball team, where he was named the 2008 Section V All Greater Rochester Player of the Year.

After his esteemed high school academic and athletic career, Jon received a baseball scholarship to Marist College, where he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2011, and continues to play professional baseball.  The work ethic, character, and leadership qualities that ensured his success as a member of the Hilton Cadets Varsity Ice Hockey team continue to be displayed in his career.  Jon has twice been awarded the Pittsburgh Pirates Community Commitment Award.  The prestigious annual honor, which is presented by Chevrolet, recognizes the player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field -- including sportsmanship and community involvement.

Jon Schwind’s commitment, dedication, and impact on the Hilton Cadets Varsity Ice Hockey Program continue to make this program and the entire Hilton community proud.  Congratulations to Jon Schwind, this year’s inductee into the Legends of Hilton Hockey.
