2019 Hall of Fame

Greg Normand-  Ann Arbor Skyline/Oxford/ Orchard Lake St. Mary's/ Waterford

 

Greg Normand is the former Varsity Head Coach at Waterford, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, and Oxford. He is in his first year as the Head Coach at Ann Arbor Skyline.  In addition to his time as a High School Coach, Greg has served as the Head Coach at Eastern Michigan for two years and the Central Michigan Head coach for three years – both teams played in the MCLA. Greg also served as the Michigan State Women’s Head Coach for seven years. 

Greg has 179 career wins at the high school level placing him 7th all-time in Michigan. A career highlight was when he took Orchard Lake St. Mary’s to the state title game in 2009.

 

He is serving a two-year stint as the MHSLCA Secretary. During his time as the Association's Secretary, he has introduced 'Conversations with History' that is a living history of lacrosse in the sate of Michigan. 

 

When he was coaching the MSU women, he developed the program to be one of the outstanding collegiate club teams in the Midwest and coached four WCLA All-Americans and 29 All-Conference players.  Normand has also served as the Secretary for the Suburban Middle School League, the President of the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse League Board of Directors (six years).

He was the first editor of the MCLA Magazine, an affiliated magazine for Men’s Club Collegiate Lacrosse and has served on various USL committees, including rules and communications.

Normand was also the back page editor for Michigan Lacrosse Magazine / Newspaper for six years.

 


Greg Durham- Orchard Lake St. Mary's/ Northville

 

     Greg Durham is in his 2nd year as the Varsity Head Coach at Orchard Lake St. Mary's.  He has also served as the varsity coach at Northville High School (2001, 2004-2017) and has 148 wins. (12th All-Time in state at the time of his induction. 

 

Prior to his roles as a Varsity Head Coach, Greg was active in lacrosse in a number of ways, including: 

  • Director of US Lacrosse's U15 & U13 Michigan Select Teams from 1999-2005
  • Assistant Coach for Bloomfield High School Girl's team in 1998
  • Birmingham Middle School's 7th & 8th grade teams from 1999-2000
  • Assist Coach at Detroit Catholic Central from 2002-2003

 In addition to his coaching contributions, Greg Durham has the following accolades for his resume:

  • Developed Top Ten program in Division 1.
  • Started “Victory Day”, a mentor program for students to teach lacrosse to special needs students in Northville
  • Graduated 5 field All-Americans, 2 Academic All-Americans, over 50 all-state players
  • Teams earned 2010 & 2016 KLAA Conference Championship, and 2014 & 2015 KLAA Division Championship.

 

Greg has served as Vice President for the MHSLCA from 2012-2014 as well as an integral part of the All-State Committee, where he’s served since 2004.

 


Brian Kaminskas- Clarkston/ Bloomfield/ Troy Athens 

 

In addition to his years as coach of the Clarkston squad, Brian has coached at Troy Athens, Utica Eisenhower and Bloomfield Hills.  At the time of his induction, he has amassed 193 wins, good for sixth all-time in Michigan.  

 

During the off season, Brian (with several other partners) has worked in the club environment and founded the Cash-Cows, the Clarkston Lacrosse Club that develops players at the Middle and High School level.  In addition, Brian, through his LaxBash organization, has given many players (boys and girls) the opportunity to train on a year long basis. 

 

Brian has been recoginzed throughout his coaching years.  Some of those awards include:

  • In 2011, Brian led Clarkston to an 18-2 season 
  • 2011 Division 1 US Lacrosse Coach of the Year
  • 2011 MHSLCA Coach of the Year
  • 2017 was selected to the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Brian has served on a number of committees for the Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association and has been a proponent for collegiality and good will among coaches.


 

Frank Kaminskas

 

The late Frank Kaminskas was founder of the Troy Athens and Utica Eisenhower programs. He coached at both schools as well as Bloomfield United and Clarkston.

 

He was named Coach of the year while at Troy Athens and coached the first All-American to come out of the school.

 

In 1995, Frank Kaminskas coached Clarkston to State Runner-up finish as 'B 'State Championship. Other honors for Frank include: 

 

  • Was on the coaching staff of the Silver Medal Winning International Youth Cup Team - St. Kitts ’93
  • Was on the coaching staff of the Gold Medal Winning International Youth Cup Team – Corning ‘94
  • He was also a member of the Windsor Warlocks Box lacrosse Coaching Staff from 1988 to 1996.

Frank has founded two successful lacrosse programs in the state.  Most programs are founded because parents have children that go to a school and want to play.  Frank had no children that went to Athens, but rather founded the program for the kids in the neighborhood.
