2020 Coaches Corner 

 

 09/19 Schulenberg Meet: 

 

The Anderson Cross Country Teams got off to an excellent start of the season with their first cross country meet.  The teams competed in the Schulenberg XC Invitational on Saturday morning.

 

In the boys varsity division, the Trojans took on the favorite Lockhart Lions to the wire.  Liam Donohoe medaled with a second place finish with a time of 16 minutes and 13 seconds.  Ben Kim medaled with a 4th place finish with a time of 16:46.  Justin Morwood medaled with a time of 17:26 and Robinson Dinh medaled with 14th place finish time of 18:58.  The Trojans took  2nd place in the team standings.  Riley Fuller, Lucas Byrne, and Adrian Lee Vaca rounded out the team scoring.

 

The varsity girls had three runners finish in the top five of the Schulenburg meet.  The girls competed in the 2 mile run.  Jazlyn Villareal medaled with a second place finish time of 13 minutes and 19 seconds.  Opal Lung medaled with a 4th place finish at 13:40.  Ellie Skalaban medaled with a 5th place finish in 13:44.

 

Six boys finished in the top 15 of the junior varsity division and helped lead Anderson Trojans junior varsity boys to a 1st place finish.  Joaquin Bartelli medaled with second place finish with a time of 19:28.  Owen Shafer medaled with a 5th place finish with a time of 19:48.  Rounding out the medalists for Anderson were Josh Rutman, 6th place-20:06, George Tisdale, 12th-20:46, Josh Williamson-Wood, 13th place-20:50 and Liam Jobe, 15th place-20:53. Nicholas Kinnas, David Hansen, Logan Marcum and Luke Marcum rounded out the scoring for the Trojans.

 

The Anderson junior varsity girls finished in 3rd place.  Julia Hirschman won the meet with a 1st place time of 13 minutes and 49 seconds.  The other members scoring for the Trojans at the meet included Nardos Southwick, Shelby Brown, Piper Domsch, Cameron Terry and Vivian Ueber.

 

The Anderson cross country coaching staff would like to thank all of the parents who traveled to Schulenburg to support the teams.  We appreciate it very much.

 

Next week’s McNeil Invitational will be a varsity only meet.  It will be held at Old Settler’s park in Round Rock.

 09/26 McNeil Meet:

 

The Anderson Cross Country varsity teams competed in the McNeil XC Invitational Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas.  The team ran on a tough course with high humidity.

 

In the boys varsity team -1 division, the Trojans took on teams from Mansfield, Liberty Hill and district opponent Crockett.  Liam Donohoe finished in 4th place with a time of 17:06.  Ben Kim had a 7th place finish with a time of 17:11. Justin Morwood finished in 16th place with a time of 17:51. The Trojans took 4th place in the team standings.  Robinson Dinh, Riley Fuller, Nicholas Greiner-Guzman and Stephen Campos rounded out the team scoring.

 

The varsity girls had two runners finish in the top fifteen of the McNeil meet.  Jazlyn Villarreal finished with a second place finish time of 21 minutes and 52 seconds.  Freshman Julia Hirschman competed in her first varsity cross country meet and finished in 11th place with a time of 21:55.  Sydney Fulton and Abbey Stein competed hard down the stretch to the finish line.  All four Anderson girls bested the girls of McCallum and Crockett.

 

In the boys varsity team -2 division, Josh Rutman, Sam Frieden and Adrian Lee Vaca finished strong to complete their races.  Others members included Ethan Nichols, Asa Evans and Nicholas Kinnas. 

 

The Anderson cross country coaching staff appreciates the effort of all of the runners competing in the heat and humidity on Saturday afternoon.  Congratulations to all runners.

 

Next week, the teams travel to Lockhart, Texas to compete in the Pre-District XC Meet at Lockhart City Park.  Spectators will be allowed to attend the cross country meet following UIL protocols.  We look forward to seeing our parents come out to support the runners.

 10/03 Lockhart Invitational:

 

The Anderson Cross Country teams competed in the Lockhart Pre-District XC Invitational on Saturday morning.  They got an early preview of what is in store when they meet up with their district opponents on October 29th.  All runners competed in the 2-mile run.

 

In the boys varsity division, the Trojans took on the favorite Lockhart Lions to the wire again and tied with 50 points each. The scoring went down to the 6th place runner which was Riley Fuller.  Riley’s time was faster than Lockhart’s 6th fastest runner and Anderson earned a point and was declared the team winner in the boys varsity division. 

 

The Trojans earned 4 individual medals.  Liam Donohoe medaled with a 3rd-place finish.  Ben Kim medaled with a 6th place finish.  Mathew Scheberle medaled with a 7th place finish.  Justin Morwood medaled with a 13th place finish.  Robinson Dinh, Riley Fuller, Stephen Campos and Nicolas Greiner-Guzman rounded out the team scoring.

 

The varsity girls had five runners finish in the top fifteen of the Lockhart XC meet.  Jazlyn Villarreal medaled with a 3rd place finish.  Julia Hirschman medaled with a 7th place finish.  Ellie Skalaban medaled with an 8th place finish.  Sydney Fulton medaled with a 13th place finish and Abbey Stein medaled with a 14th place finish.  Jenna Hamm and Caroline Chomel rounded out the team scoring for the Trojans.

 

Seven 9th grade boys finished in the top 20 of the junior varsity division and helped lead Anderson Trojans junior varsity boys to a 1st place finish.  Owen Shafer and Joaquin Bartelli medaled with a 1st and 2nd place finish.  Liam Jobe medaled with a 6th place finish.  Joaquin Bousquet medaled with a 6th place finish.  Joshua Williamson-Wood medaled with a 13th place finish.  Luke Marcum medaled with a 14th place finish and Logan Marcum medaled with 19th place finish.  David Hansen and Devin Gottschalk rounded out the scoring for junior varsity team. 

 

In the girls junior varsity division, 9th grader Cameron Terry medaled with a 4th place finish.  Nardos Southwick medaled with a 14th place finish and Sophia Greenaway-Dickson finished in 17th place.  Vivian Ueber competed in the ZJV girls division as well.

The Trojans will travel to Jarrell, Texas for their next cross country meet on October 10, 2020.

 10/10 Jarrell Mesquite Invitational:

 

The Anderson Cross Country teams competed in the Jarrell Mesquite XC Invitational on Saturday morning.  The Trojans got an opportunity to take on the McCallum Knights again with Georgetown Eastview and Liberty Hill.  In addition, all teams were able to enter a second fastest group with a make-up 9th through 12th grade runners

 

In the boys varsity division, the Trojans finished in 2nd place.  They were edged out by Georgetown Eastview with a team point total of 42-38.  Liam Donohoe won the race with a time of 16:23.00 and Ben Kim finished in 2nd place with a time of 17:09.00.  Justin Morwood finished in 5th place with a time of 17:56.00.  The boys varsity earned 3 team medals.  Rounding out the scoring for the Trojans were Tyler Martinez-11th place, Riley Fuller, Stephen Campos and George Tisdale.

 

In addition, the Trojans second group of  boys competed well.  They finished in 5th place overall.  Ninth grade runner, Owen Shafer posted the fastest time for the group with a time of personal time of 19:51.00. Ahmad Arab, Joaquin Bousquet, Sam Frieden, Liam Jobe and Joshua Rutman rounded out the scoring.

 

The varsity girls had three runners finish in the top ten of the Jarrell XC meet.  Jazlyn Villarreal medaled with a 3rd place finish and a time of 21:23.00.  Julia Hirschman medaled with a 5th place finish time of 21:43.00.  Opal Lung medaled with a 7th place finish time of 22:18.00.  Sydney Fulton had a 12th place finish and Caroline Chomel had a 13th place finish.  Jenna Hamm’s 18th place finish, rounded out the team scoring for the Trojans with a second place team finish.

 

We had a great turnout by our parents to support our teams in Jarrell, Texas.  The Anderson cross country coaching staff would like to thank all of the parents who traveled to Jarrell, Texas.  We appreciate it very much.

 

The varsity teams and junior varsity boys team-2 will travel to Zilker Park for the Zilker Park Informal Classic Run on October 17, 2020.  The junior varsity girls and junior varsity boys team- 1 will travel to Liberty Hill, Texas for their next cross country meet on October 17, 2020.
